Pantheon Review – Archangel

Review outdated as of 4/30/15. Updated ratings will be released each NA godfest.
The Archangels are perhaps the most boring pantheon since Indian 1. Their leader skills are geared for tanking and can get you through a decent amount of content, but it precludes you from speed farming; one of the most important aspects of the game.

Uriel – B-
Pros
  • Fire dragons are becoming more relevant
  • Great RCV
  • Decent orb change
  • Decent awakenings
  • Decent sub
Cons
  • Niche leader
Notes
The problem with the RGB Archangels’ orb changes is that making hearts isn’t much of a bonus anymore. It works well with tank teams, but to burst teams the extra cooldown for the hearts is almost all downside. Add the fact that the Heroes pantheon has the same type of orb change, but are getting extra, better awakenings makes the Archangels even less desirable.

Gabriel – C
Pros
  • Healer type
  • Decent orb change
  • Decent awakenings
  • Great RCV
  • Decent sub
Cons
  • Niche leader
Notes
See: Uriel. Now that Andromeda is a healer with 2 rows, Gabriel’s place on an I&I team has been usurped.

Michael – C+
Pros
  • Decent orb change
  • Decent awakenings
  • Great RCV
  • Decent sub
Cons
  • Niche leader
  • Mistyped as attacker
Notes
See: Uriel. He’d be much better served as balanced rather than attacker as wood attackers are now leaning towards TPAs.

Raphael – C-
Pros
  • Healer type
  • 2 rows
  • Great awakenings
Cons
  • Niche leader
  • Active slow and cumbersome
  • Niche sub
Notes
His active needs to be paired with a heartbreaker to be useful. Can be good on specialized farming teams to set up a full light board, but otherwise seems to have limited sub uses despite having 2 light rows.

Lucifer – B
Pros
  • Great sub selection, particularly non-IAP
  • Can clear most game content
Cons
  • Horrible lead for farming
  • Useless sub
Notes
Lucifer gets a lot of hate for being a no-skill, play-bejeweled-for-2-hours leader, but the fact that his subs are easily farmable and can clear much game content with minimal investment is a huge asset. I wouldn’t look forward to getting one, but if you do he’s great if you have limited options.

Pantheon Grade – C

One thing I haven’t gone over is the ability for every Archangel to serve as a tank lead. I’ve seen Lucifer and Uriel teams run to great success (meaning, clearing high level Challenge Dungeons) and I’d assume the other colors could have similar results. This ability shouldn’t be overlooked, but in the current state of the game it’s better to invest in raising a burst team that can quickly clear content.

In the end, the Archangels, like the Greek pantheon, are completely overshadowed by other options. However, unlike Greek, I wouldn’t suggest rolling in their godfest.
