Pantheon Review – Japanese 2

Review outdated as of 4/30/15. Updated ratings will be released each NA godfest.
The second Japanese pantheon is an improvement over the first. Where the first pantheon is mainly used as subs, the second has good leaders too. While not the strongest, Japanese 2’s versatility makes them a good choice to roll for as you’ll likely be able to get some mileage out of them regardless of your box or team composition.

Ame no Uzume – C+
Pros
  • Leader skill now boosts HP
  • Flexible sub pool
  • Active provides perpetual RCV boost in pairs
Cons
  • Active not proactive in enabling leader skill
  • No bind resist lessens active’s utility
  • Poor sub
Notes
While her active and HP boost improves your tankiness, if you’re taking too much damage per turn the only way to get back and stay above the 50% HP threshold is to use a delay or damage reducer. This in turn lessens the amount of orb change actives you can run, which only further limits the dungeons she can run. She’s also a poor sub choice as the RCV boost provided by her active and her auto-heal awakenings don’t have much use in fire. She really needed additional awakenings like U&Y and Kushi got.

Umisachi & Yamasachi – A
Pros
  • 25x leader skill
  • 2 TPAs
  • Great awakenings
  • Good sub
Cons
  • No time extend
Notes
There’s not a lot I need to say about U&Y as most people know they are one of the premier leads in the game. Even though they are healers, their TPAs, orb enhances and orb change combined with 25x are sufficient to burst most things in the game. The only negative thing I can think of is that they don’t come with a time extend like most combo gods which makes them a bit less accessible to beginners.

Kushinadahime – B-
Pros
  • Beefy damage reduction on short cooldown
  • Good awakenings
  • Great lead for weekend dungeon
  • Great sub
Cons
  • Leader skill takes a lot of work to get decent damage output
Notes
I’m a bit biased as Kushinadahime single-handedly allowed my GZL team to tackle a wide array of descends. Even though her awakenings aren’t the greatest with GZL — I’ll probably never awaken her auto-heal — the damage reduction provides so much value she more than carries her weight. I can see this transferring to many other teams, particularly with handling large preemptives. While I love her as a sub, her leader skill doesn’t give enough returns for the effort: even if you 8 combo every board you’re only getting 4x.

Izanagi – C+
Pros
  • God damage boost
  • Good sub
Cons
  • Mediocre awakenings
  • Improved leader skill still crap
Notes
The only reason Izanagi is a desired monster is for his 2x damage boosts to gods, but even that space has diminished with the introduction of the armored knight Muse and a lot of gods lately losing god type in favor of devil and dragon. His awakenings are bad and his leader skill is worse, even after the recent update; at least now it’s good for farming. Much of his value is tied into being a great sub for Athena, one of the best farmable leads in the game, but his lack of usefulness elsewhere significantly lowers his value.

Okuninushi – B+
Pros
  • Great lead; severely underrated
  • Delay/damage boost active
  • Great HP
  • Good awakenings
  • Decent sub
Cons
  • No new awakenings like U&Y and Kushi
  • No RCV
Notes
Okuninushi is one of the most underrated leads in the game, although it’s somewhat understandable as he’s gone through so many iterations to get where he is that many likely lost track. His most powerful aspect is that he does a good Egypt 2 impression by providing a RCV boost while providing a beefy 5k HP by himself. This makes Okuni teams incredibly tanky on top of having an easy to activate 4x combo leader skill. On top of that he provides a dark damage boost, something that tank teams want anyways, and the 1 turn delay can save your ass. While his awakenings aren’t great as a sub, his active makes up for it with its utility.

Pantheon Grade – B-

This pantheon is a bit confusing as U&Y and Kushi got extra awakenings with their uevos while the others didn’t. They’d be one of the stronger pantheons if they all got them, but as is they are a mixed bag. U&Y is obviously the prize of the pantheon and the rest can at least lead or sub decent teams, but I’d make sure the other pantheon(s) in the godfest were to your liking before rolling.
