Pantheon Review – Heroes

Review outdated as of 4/30/15. Updated ratings will be released each NA godfest.
The Heroes pantheon has a stigma of being heavily reliant on REM-only orb changers in order to be good. While this is true for them to reach their full potential — which is quite high — they are still serviceable leads without them. They are also good subs as they have good awakenings and a decent orb change. Their uevos have elevated them to the elite status.

Yamato Takeru – A-
Pros
  • Great awakenings
  • Good orb change
  • Dragon type becoming increasingly relevant in fire
  • Survey dungeon coming to NA eventually
  • Good sub
Cons
  • REM reliant
Notes
As the Heroes are basically the same, I’ll cover their common points here. A successful Heroes team requires three things: 1) 5-turn orb changers, 2) mass/full-board orb changers and 3) row enhance awakenings. While there are serviceable non-IAP 5 turn orb changers, mass orb changers and row enhances are difficult to come by. This is the main reason why Heroes are seen as IAP reliant. Unless you have at least a couple good REM subs for a given Heroes team, it’s probably not worth trying to raise the team. On the other hand, once you do have a good collection of REM subs your Hero team will be one of the strongest in the game, at least for burst.
Takeru’s uevo’s unique awakenings are two extra skill boosts. While this doesn’t directly increase his damage output like another row would, it gives him a lot of flexibility when trying to create a team that wants a full board orb change up on turn 1 (like when having to deal with Beelzebub’s full poison change on the first turn).

Andromeda – A
Pros
  • Great awakenings
  • Good orb change
  • Healer type
  • Survey dungeon coming to NA eventually
  • Great sub
Cons
  • REM reliant
Notes
See: Yamato Takeru. Andromeda’s uevo’s unique awakenings are an extra row and skill bind resist. These new awakenings are desperately needed in water and immediately make her an elite monster.

Perseus – B
Pros
  • Great awakenings
  • Good orb change
  • Balanced type
  • Great sub
Cons
  • REM reliant
  • No survey dungeon
Notes
See: Yamato Takeru. The worst of the new Heroes uevos, Perseus’s unique awakenings are an extra skill boost and skill bind resist. These new awakenings don’t really change the game for Perseus and he remains inferior to the rest of the pantheon except for Sun Wukong who doesn’t have a uevo yet. It’s telling to his popularity and perceived power that Takeru and Andromeda got voted for the survey dungeon as soon as they came out while he was passed over.

Sun Wukong – B
1735 - 大聖の金猿神, Sun Wukong
Pros
  • Great awakenings
  • Good orb change
Cons
  • REM reliant
  • Light has the worst row support
  • No survey dungeon
  • Physical type is irrelevant
Notes
See: Yamato Takeru. Wukong’s unique awakenings are an extra skill boost and light row. Wukong is the red headed stepchild of the pantheon. Light has by far the worst row support, with the major offenses being LValk having no row enhance and no 9-turn Chinese board change; no, Apocalypse doesn’t count and he doesn’t combo with Fuma Kotaro anyways. Hopefully his uevo will be similar to Andromeda’s and he’ll get an extra row (or two… yeah right) as light needs it more than water. I covered Wukong’s woes in depth here.
Updated: 3/8/2015 – Light still remains the worst Hero color, but Wukong’s uevo does a lot help.

Pandora – A+
1736 - 魔哭の冥夜神, Pandora
Pros
  • Elite awakenings
  • Good orb change
  • Elite sub, particularly for Juggler
  • Can now reap the benefits of a dark devil
Cons
  • REM reliant leader
Notes
See: Yamato Takeru. Somewhat unexpectedly since dark rows were already so strong, Pandora got the best awakening set of the Heroes pantheon along with Wukong, acquiring a second dark row and skill boost. Even better, she got a devil subtype, opening the door to endless possibilities as a sub. If it wasn’t clear before, Pandora is one of the best monsters in the entire game and if you’re lucky enough to roll her, you won’t regret investing into hypermaxing her.
Updated: 3/8/2015 – Pandora’s uevo makes her one of the best monsters in the game, only overshadowed by Juggler who was released at the same time.

Pantheon Grade – A

The Heroes pantheon is strong. While REM-reliance is a weakness, now that they all have uevos, the pure power of those forms helps make up for it. They are all great leaders, but are also great subs due to their awakenings and orb change, with Perseus and Pandora being particularly strong. I’d only urge rolling in a Heroes godfest if you have a good set of subs already, but even if you don’t you’re still getting good value and have the potential to have one of the strongest burst teams in PAD.

Updated: 3/8/2015 – With Sun Wukong and Pandora’s uevos, the Heroes are the best pantheon in the game, only rivaled by Chinese’s flexibility. Pantheon upgraded from A- to A.
