Making a Star Vault Farming Team

Ruins of the Star Vault - Starry View LaneStar Vault is by far the best place to farm +eggs (probably). Due to its limited-time nature, it follows that the most time-efficient team is desirable for farming it. The new Vritra uevo has raised the bar for farming teams, allowing a team to eschew all matching and simply push 6 buttons to clear the dungeon. This team doesn’t come without a considerable cost, however, so instead of that being the end-all-be-all, I’ll look into other options for making an efficient Star Vault team.

Clears Via Matching is Slow

Here’s my current team:

1422 - Guardian of the Sacred City, Athena1621 - Flash Sorcerer, Rei Sirius1727 - Divine Law Goddess, Valkyrie Rose1238 - Divine Flowers, Da Qiao & Xiao Qiao1217 - Keeper of the Sacred Texts, Metatron1422 - Guardian of the Sacred City, Athena

There’s no real rhyme or reason to the team, but it has a couple 5-turn orb changers up on turn one and has enough firepower to clear the boss floor with a single TPA. I currently get about 50-60 Star Vault runs per hour. Let’s be generous and say I get about one run per minute. Just doing a quick search on YouTube you can see teams that can clear it in about 30-35 seconds. Add in maybe an additional 5-10 seconds for the load time and rewards screen (which can now be skipped in JP) and you’re looking at runs that are about 30% more time-efficient. Instead of 60 runs, you’re doing 80+; you’re getting about 120 +eggs instead of 90. The main reason for this discrepancy is the matching and attack animations take up too much time which adds up over 5 floors. It follows that we want to get around this by clearing as many floors as possible with AoE nukes.

Finding Valid Nukes

There are many nukes in the game, but most won’t cut it for farming Star Vault. The basic requirements are:

  • Area of Effect
  • Light or Dark Damage – There are some RGB nukes that are large enough to make elemental resistance irrelevant, but for the most part we are looking for light or dark.
  • Quick – How quick is determined by the team makeup and how many skill boosts it has.
  • Enough Damage

As AoE and damage type are easy to filter — and quickness depends on team makeup — let’s look at the damage requirements for a valid nuke:

Monster HP DEF Notes
61 - Hobgoblin 17550 140 The strongest enemy on floor 2. You can reserve one weak nuke for this floor
270 - Mist Chimera 25417 350 The strongest enemy for floors 1, 3 and 4. Your other nukes will have to be able to one-shot this guy. If using a light nuke, the next biggest enemy is Volt Chimera.
271 - Fog Chimera 580923 980 The strongest enemy of the boss floor. If using a light nuke, the next biggest is the Thunder Chimera. Only two Vritra Grudge Strikes can deal with this floor, so it will mostly be ignored when considering valid nukes.

I then perused PDX monster database to find a list of applicable nuke monsters, but, as expected, PDX doesn’t exactly have the most reliable information. I was going to try PADGuide, but quickly tired of looking at crap monsters. From what I can tell, the key monsters are:

On NA

1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1631 - Dark Sky Star Dragon Emperor, Defoud1093 - Tornado Holy Dragon444 - Ancient Light Dragon, Laphroaig1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra1207 - 5 Mechdragon Combo, Demon Hadar1110 - Light Twin Star Divinegon661 - Chaos Blizzard Dragon

Eventually (Probably) Coming to NA

1746 - 修羅の飛翔神, Lu Bu2012 - Awoken Ra2006 - 天下御免の大泥棒, Goemon

Probably Not Coming to NA

450 - Ultimate Berserker1976 - 神羅光龍神, Ryuuga

Aiding in Quickness

We also want our skills to be available on turn one, so it would be good to keep in mind monsters with three skill boosts:

1713 - 5-Ore Magic Stone Dragon, Mithril Edge778 - Twisted Mountain God, Grand Tengu1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1925 - War Deity of the Magic Spear, Odin1644 - Arbiter of Judgement, Metatron1732 - Stormy God-Emperor, Yamato Takeru1923 - 相思の天界神, Zeus & Hera1938 - Super Saiyan 3 - Gotenks1199 - 覚醒秘神オーディン&オーディン猫

The Actual Teams

Just listing monsters doesn’t actually tell us anything. Instead of fumbling in the dark looking trying to discover our own teams, I went to YouTube and looked up some of the oft-used Star Vault farming teams to give us somewhere to start. Unless stated otherwise, all monsters mentioned are assumed to be max skilled, although there are some exceptions if you have enough skill boosts.

No Match – a.k.a the Vritra Teams

1746 - 修羅の飛翔神, Lu Bu1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, VritraUnknown CardUnknown CardUnknown Card

Pretty straightforward, use Lu Bu to nuke the first floor and get down to 1 HP, enabling your Vritras to do their thing. Basically, your nukes need to also provide enough skill boosts (12) to have Lu Bu up on turn one. These slots are generally filled by:

1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin450 - Ultimate Berserker2012 - Awoken Ra

Uevo Lu Bu is preferred for the extra 100 ATK and skill boost. If using a full Grudge Strike team, Lu Bu needs 77 ATK +eggs to reliably wipe the first floor. The two Vritras used to clear the boss floor need 128 ATK +eggs combined for a total of 205. Not cheap.

FFCD Berserker

1746 - 修羅の飛翔神, Lu Bu1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra450 - Ultimate Berserker450 - Ultimate Berserker450 - Ultimate Berserker

A variation using the FFCD collab Ultimate Berserker, which will likely never come to NA. He has a fire Grudge Strike which can clear the garbage floors. His main appeal over Vritra is he’s a silver egg in the collab REM, making him significantly easier to obtain. As he brings two skills boosts, you only need to get them 3 skill levels each to be up turn 1.

Awoken Ra

1746 - 修羅の飛翔神, Lu Bu1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra2012 - Awoken Ra2012 - Awoken Ra2012 - Awoken Ra

Awoken Ra is great for farming as his active now does 77,777 damage and he also provides two skill boosts. The best part is you don’t have to skill him up at all.

Minimal Match

These are teams for those not blessed with two Vritras or Lu Bu + Vritra. They generally use nukes to clear floors 1-4 then use a critical mass of on-color orbs to finish of the boss floor. This method is a bit slower due to the match animation, particularly if you get unwanted skyfalls.

ROdin

1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1645 - Marvelous Red Dragon Caller, Sonia1090 - Hurricane Volcano Dragon1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin

This was probably one of the go-to teams before uevo Vritra and uevo Goemon were released. ROdin clears floors 1-4 while RSonia + HVD provide a full fire board for the boss floor. ROdin is still the king of nukes, but you really want three to be most effective, making this team unobtainable for even heavy IAPers.

REM-Heavy Uevo Goemon

2006 - 天下御免の大泥棒, Goemon1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1732 - Stormy God-Emperor, Yamato Takeru1732 - Stormy God-Emperor, Yamato Takeru1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin

There are several variations of the Goemon team. This is just an example of an REM-heavy team. Basically ROdin and Goemon nuke the first 4 floors, then use the Goemon full fire board to finish off the boss floor. The Yamato Takerus can be easily swapped out for other alternatives, but they have to provide at least 5 skill boosts.

No REM Goemon

And here’s a non-REM version. You have to do at least three matches with this team, making it a bit slow, but considering the relatively low investment cost this team can be very appealing for non-IAPers.

No REM Light Fagan

1342 - Gleaming Kouryu Emperor, Fagan1631 - Dark Sky Star Dragon Emperor, Defoud1093 - Tornado Holy Dragon444 - Ancient Light Dragon, Laphroaig444 - Ancient Light Dragon, Laphroaig1342 - Gleaming Kouryu Emperor, Fagan

The thought here is nuke each floor while generating enough light orbs via Defoud’s and THD’s nukes to wipe the boss floor with minimal matching. This team has 8 skill boosts, meaning your Defoud needs 9 skills ups, your THD needs to be max skilled (7 skill ups) and your Laphroaigs need 1 skill up each. THD is the big obstacle here as his skill up fodder is a rare spawn in the RO Collab and you probably don’t want to spend Pys on him.

No THD Wukong

Sun Wukong

This team is an REM variation of the Light Fagan team that doesn’t need THD. This generally requires one more click to generate more orbs via Wukong. Your own Wukong doesn’t even need skill ups if your friend leader is max skilled.

What I’m Aiming For

2006 - 天下御免の大泥棒, Goemon1927 - Abyssal Darkdragon, Vritra1732 - Stormy God-Emperor, Yamato Takeru1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin1108 - Awoken Phantom God, Odin

I was originally aiming for a Lu Bu/Vritra team, but I just don’t want to spend the +eggs on the team. Seeing as I already have Vritra and two ROdins max skilled, all this team needs is a max skilled uevo Goemon — if/when it hits NA — which is something I wanted for other farming applications anyways. However, my farming plans really depend on the Best Friend system coming to NA so I can have a ROdin available for any number of runs I can fit inside an hour. I don’t intend to add enough ROdins or other three skill boost friend leaders otherwise. I doubt I’ll ever want to play hard enough to farm the Star Vault coin dungeon — again, if/when it hits NA — but if I do, I’ll likely put together the Lu Bu/Vritra team.

In case you were curious, this team does 1,867,826 damage with a full fire board, more than enough to clear the 560,590 HP and 980 DEF boss floor water chimera.

  1. Hi there! Great guide. I was wondering if you would take a look at an team idea I’m thinking of pursuing and see if it would work out for SV. I wanted to do Goemon/LuBu/A.Ra/Tengu/Tengu/Rodin friend. It would have 15 SB which is enough for a max skill Goemon. I would use LuBu active for floor 2 and Ra and Rodin actives for 3 and 4. Would this work as a minimal match team? Thank you!
