The Game8 list.

I’m still not entirely sure how I want to handle these posts as being beholden to Game8’s updates isn’t something I’m particularly interested in. However, JP did just get some new, sexy GFEs so let’s check them out.

Kanna Debuts as an A+ Sub; How Good Is She?

2148 - 早天の日龍喚士, Kanna
I’m actually not sure I like her at A+. It seems that Game8 tends to overrate new monsters, but I could be wrong in this case. Her types and awakenings are obviously great, but I’m not sure her active warrants that A+. I’m mainly skeptical that any endgame-relevant light teams actually want that type of effect. Borrowing from Game8’s own leader list, the candidates are Awoken Ra, LKali, Ilm, Hathor, and Sonia Gran. She appears to fit best on LKali and Hathor. Awoken Ra doesn’t really need a boost to his 100x. While she has dragon synergy with Sonia Gran the active skill is redundant.

Actually, Awoken Ra is a special case. It seems like most Ra teams have replaced Muse with Awoken Isis, meaning there’s an opening for Kanna’s damage enhance. Ra is also one of the better candidates to consistently clear the Ultimate Arena and can use the damage enhance to deal with the Kali bosses. This is a very narrow use case, but I suspect this is a big reason she debuted this high.

I still don’t see Kanna as an A+ sub. Then again, outside of the S grade subs which I 100% agree with, I don’t agree with quite a few picks for the rest of their list. I guess A+ is fine, but S would surely be overrating her.

Why Didn’t Satsuki Make the Sub List?

2150 - 禍時の月龍喚士, Satsuki
To be honest, I’m not too sure. Compared to Kanna, the missing skill boost is huge, but her orb change has more applications than a damage enhance. I initially guessed that it was due to the lack of synergy, dark mainly being known for devils and rows. However, Satsuki seems like a great fit on an Inifinirog team and dark’s combo teams like Okuninushi and Nephthys. Maybe that doesn’t warrant a place on the list, but I don’t think she’s too far behind Kanna.

How Good Are They as Leads?

To be perfectly honest, I want JP to figure this out for me as I don’t have too much interest in either of them as leads. However, let’s do a very superficial analysis and see if we get anywhere.

Here is the list of relevant light dragon-gods:
1976 - Shinra Light Dragon God Ryuga1360 - Destroyer Dragon, Apocalypse1246 - Gleaming-Eyed Dragon Monk, Xuanzang1342 - Gleaming Kouryu Emperor, Fagan657 - Holy Thunderdragon Indra

There’s not much here. After countless improvements, Apocalypse is now quite solid. Xuanzang and Indra are great utility subs, but I wouldn’t consider them regulars. There are some off-color options like Avalon Drake, but I’m going to ignore those for now.

The lack of high-synergy subs can’t be held against her too much. Kanna needs to be treated like the Norns where it isn’t a strict requirement to meet both leader skill criteria. You’re then open to a wide selection of light gods, similar to an Athena team.

Sadly, even taking that into consideration there is an extreme lack of elite light subs. Looking at Game8’s own sub list, of the six light subs none of them scream at me to make a Kanna team as they are mostly combo focused. Maybe Kanna’s introduction should change the ratings of light’s non-combo subs — Iria immediately comes to mind — but like I said, I’ll let JP figure it out.

Now for dark dragon-attackers:
1560 - 超サイヤ人・破壊王子 Vegeta1129 - Dragon Shogun

This list of dark attackers with TPAs is also fairly short. Things don’t look too good for Satsuki as a leader.

Enough of that, Why Was Thief Downgraded?

1902 - 究極装備 Thief
Once again, I couldn’t tell you. Thief is basically wood’s version of Indra and seems like a natural fit for Bastet teams. I think their A+ and A sub lists are in a bit of disarray, so maybe this is their attempt to sort things out.

My gut reaction was that this was the best most OP card ever, and it kinda was for farming purposes… for about three days, then shiva dragon arrived, and the PAD community exploded. 😄

After some thought, she’s still incredibly powerful, so she does deserve to be on this list. A or A+ is nitpicking though, S is leagues beyond A+, whereas A and A+ are relatively close in value. However, she isn’t the end of the game as so many cried out. Nor is Shiva dragon. When they release a monster point card that can outpace the S tier leaders, THEN we are in trouble.

(To be fair, Shivagon is basically fire Lakshmi without the heart requirement, but with less tankiness. Lakshmi is still better because of high HP/RCV subs vs fire’s high ATK and… yeah, ATK… All things considered, he’s gonna be a beast at farming lategame, time will tell if he’s endgame material or not…)

    • I agree there isn’t much difference between A+ and A and that S is way ahead of A+, but seeing as I don’t think she belongs on the list at all I’d feel better with her at A. I don’t think a sub that really only brings damage is all that valuable nowadays. I haven’t given it much thought or research as what happens in light doesn’t concern me much, so I’m prepared to be proven wrong.

I saw a pretty impressive Shiva Dragon team with 2 YamaTake and 2 Ares which should only get better when Ares gets his new uevo. I’m fine with him as an A+ lead, but I too am curious where he’ll settle at.
