Collab Review – Batman

GungHo decided to throw NA a bone and gave us the Batman Collab before JP (allegedly). To make things better, the Batman gold eggs received split uevos; ones that are near clones of the powerful Hunter×Hunter gold eggs Gon and Killua. While it’s obvious they’re inferior to their H×H counterparts from sub pools alone, they shouldn’t be underestimated. 27.04x is nothing to sneeze at — even if it’s HP conditional and the subs are worse — and makes them an appealing option for farming future 5×4 dungeons for latent tamas. The Batman silver eggs have always been decent value and now it has a budget Urd sub in Harley Quinn. There’s nothing game changing, but if you believe in the potential of the new Batman uevos then it’s worth giving this REM a few pulls.

5-Star Gold Eggs

The Batman split uevos will be reviewed separately as they fulfill entirely different roles.

Grades are given relative to monsters of the same rarity.

Light Batman – B-
1221 - BAO Batman+S. Gloves Act FB
Pros
  • A rare dark-devil delay
  • Now has skill up fodder with Arkham Knight
Cons
  • Unusable as a leader
Notes
In the past, Light Batman had popularity on dark-devil teams for his delay utility. However, it’s questionable if that type of team is even relevant for the endgame anymore. Most of the relevant teams are RSonia-based and don’t really need the delay. He does have some edge case utility like covering dark and supplying a light row for DQXQ row teams, but that’s just a marginal bonus. He’s still a solid sub, but he just doesn’t have a home on an elite team anymore.
Disruptor Batman – A-
2133 - Batman+Disruptor
Pros
  • A machine/physical Gon-san
  • Now has skill up fodder with Arkham Knight
Cons
  • HP conditional leader skills are always iffy, but Gon has proven it’s worth the effort.
  • Mixed bag of awakenings
  • Loses devil type
Notes
This Batman is basically a machine/physical version of Gon. However, Gon has a few advantages that make him an elite leader where Disruptor is merely good. The most obvious being the superior wood attacker and physical type sub pool.
While Gon may have superior sub selection and quality, Disruptor’s sub pool isn’t horrible. Right now, his best physical sub might be Awoken Kagutsuchi who is off-element, but makes both fire and dark orbs. DIzanami, Zuoh and Infinirog are also solid choices and Kakkab is great for machines. It’s also possible to fill in holes with off-type monsters; they’ll still get a 4x ATK boost even if they aren’t machine or physical.
Disruptor also suffers from inferior awakenings. While they’re generally an upgrade over Light’s, they suffer from not having any real focus. The lack of extra skill boosts makes system teams with the new Cyber series impossible since the skills won’t be ready turn one.
Disruptor does have one advantage over Gon. The fact that he’s bind immune means you’ll always have the HP boost and access to his delay. The delay is always useful for managing HP, but in this case it can be particularly important. A dark bind would usually bind your entire team, but since Disruptor is immune you can use his delay to try and buy the time necessary to stall out for any bound subs.
I actually really like Disruptor and think there’s a lot of potential, but we’ll just have to wait and see if it comes to pass.

Water Batman – B
1476 - BAO Batman+BW Stealth
Pros
  • Still one of the best dark-devil damage enhancers
Cons
  • Poor stats, HP got boosted but was the least needed
  • Active cooldown was reduced, but still too slow
Notes
I’ve used Water Batman to much of success on my Beelzebub team, but I’m finding I’m using him less and less. His cooldown was improved by a turn, but it’s still too slow. I want to be able to use my damage enhance every time my Zuoh is ready and Water Batman just doesn’t allow that. He’s still a fine sub, but I think Vritra or Loki are better in almost every situation. I wouldn’t chase this gold egg for this form in particular.
Batmobile Batman – B+
2134 - Batman+Batmobile
Pros
Cons
  • Even shallower sub pool than Disruptor
  • Active lacks delay synergy with leader skill
  • Loses devil type
Notes
Batmobile Batman is the corresponding Killua clone, but, similar to Disruptor, suffers from quite a few disadvantages compared to his H×H predecessor. Once again, the sub pool is the biggest downside with balanced being one of the most poorly supported dark types. He also has a damage enhance instead of a delay, making his HP condition more difficult to manage.
One thing Batmobile does have is superior awakenings. Two TPAs are great and two skill boosts mean a Kakkab System is possible. Despite that, it appears Batmobile is inferior to Disruptor as a lead currently and probably in the future. Gon generally being regarded better than Killua is the biggest reason, but I just think it’s more likely to get more relevant dark physical subs than balanced.

4-Star Silver Eggs

What these silver eggs really need are skill up fodder a la Shinrabansho as they could be useful skilled up. Otherwise they’re just like most other silver eggs and outside marginal low-cost uses should be sold for MP.

Grades are given relative to monsters of the same rarity.

Harley Quinn – B
2136 - Final Nightmare Harley Quinn
Pros
  • A reasonable Urd sub
  • An orb change is always a plus
Cons
  • A useful skill, but needs skill up fodder
Notes
You can’t really expect much more out of a silver egg than what Harley offers. She fits nicely on any fire-based TPA team, particularly on Urd. The main reason being her orb change. I could nitpick her shortcomings, but for a silver egg it seems meaningless. If you’re in the need for a budget Urd sub, Harley has definite value. Otherwise, you’ll likely sell her for MP.

Catwoman – C+
672 - Catwoman+C. Claw
Pros
  • Active now generates five fire orbs
Cons
  • In most cases, just a bad Ganesha
Notes
Catwoman gained a lot of value now that she generates fire orbs, but that’s still not enough to make her a relevant sub as it’s still on a 10-turn cooldown. If you’re looking for a coin-boosting lead then it’s probably better just to get a few Ganesha friends, but if you want dual coin leads she’s definitely an option.

Robin – B
674 - Robin+E. Stick
Pros
  • 8x ATK is extremely powerful for a silver egg
Cons
  • Can you activate his leader skill?
Notes
Robin has always been one of the most powerful silver eggs, topping out at 8x ATK. His base form can be used to overpower low cost dungeons you don’t have a dedicated team for, you just need the skill/luck to activate him. His evo form can make a respectable pair with Anubis, but there isn’t much reason to use him in this capacity anymore; power creep has made activating his 8x hardly worth the effort.

Dark Batman – B-
678 - Batman+Remote Claw
Pros
  • A classic low-cost lead
  • Budget dark delay
Cons
  • None
Notes
Dark Batman is most known for being a low-cost lead, for Draggie in particular. There are many other legit low-cost options nowadays, but Dark Batman is still the most ubiquitous meaning you should have an easier time finding a friend to pair with. Now that GungHo has basically killed low cost dungeons by providing alternative ways of acquiring most of the drops, keeping one around isn’t as important anymore, but if you have the space you can keep one just in case.

Conclusion

Batman has been and remains the best true collab NA has gotten. While there’s no game changing monsters on the level of Baggi or Gon, the new Batman uevos go a long way toward bridging that gap. While it’s foolish to assume GungHo will release direct support for either Batman — we’ve been waiting for that killer Urd sub for how long now? — I think it’s reasonable to believe more machine types are on the way and there’s always the chance of that random physical or balanced sub appearing.

Rolling in collab REMs is always a risky proposition — 90% miss rates are obviously bad — but this will likely be the best we get so if you want something from this REM, feel free to go for it. I’m personally going to roll a pack, stopping early if I roll a gold egg.

  1. Unusually, D/B Batman was among my first rolls. I think we can all agree that his active needs some utility or an orb change built in for him to be truly competitive, but as an unconditional (matching wise) he’s nice for farming.

In a way I take this new D/D version to be a slightly better D/L Fagan, although the lack of an off-color sub element hurts his one match trash sweeping potential. It’s funny thinking back to when 16x was considered to be big guns.

I’ve tried in the past to roll D/L Batman, he was desirable then and he’s desirable now, but my heart may not be ready to roll more Catwomen…

  2. I was thinking about rolling for that Harley Quinn, but is she really worth it. If there were skill ups available for her.. would she overtake any of Urd’s Ideal subs? I just really like that double orb change but I guess there should be better options.

    • I wouldn’t roll specifically for her. While she’s quite nice, she isn’t good enough to risk several pulls for, even if she had skill up fodder. However, if there were other things in the REM you wanted, her being there should make the decision to roll easier.

  3. Will roll for this.
Machine types are slowly growing and maybe one day Gung ho will release the ideal machine/attacker subs for batman.
You never know just like Typhon with akechi.

    • Hopefully that was a typo, but the Batmen are either machine/balanced or machine/physical.

I think there’s a good chance they will release an elite-tier dark-machine sub, but that’s just speculation. I really hope it comes to pass, though, as it doesn’t make sense to create a new type and not eventually push its power level.

    • Yup, I think it’s critical to be able to use your damage enhancer in turn with Zuoh+Pandora. Loki also got a boost with the Norse getting a haste added to their actives.

      Like

      • ironically the haste doesn’t help the Zouh/Pandora accelerate because you have to wait for loki to be up again, but still 9 turns is a lot better than 11 (12jp) I miracle pulled blue bats (1 roll), hoping for light. Oh well, if nothing comes of it eventually monster points 😀

        • Yeah, that’s unfortunate. It’s always good to have a heartmaker ready one turn earlier, though.

Congrats on the roll. Sadly, collab gold eggs don’t have an MP sell price worthy of the difficulty to pull them.

  4. yeah, collab MP prices are rough in general, The haste is still tons better than the (basically worthless) nuke, so I’ll take it. I have the shivadragon path also, which hurts Gon/Killua needs.

I also use Hanzo/Haku, because Hero gods hate me (only Yamato), so the haste is more valuable since I can use a hanzo+beelzebub without losing time on the active rotation… though with bestcat and shivadragon that team just gets used less and less…

sidenote: Thank you for this blog, it has helped me immensely in my transition into endgame. Ronia had me farming descended pretty well, but breaking past that.. was difficult. Granted Awoken Bastet did some of the work lol. I finally cleared extreme endless, and I still screw up and die on rushes sometimes, but those are just the woes of being a bad player 😀
