The Game8 list

Another small update.

RIP Kanna

2148 - Dawn Sky Sun Dragon Caller, Kanna
It looks like Game8 is trying to clean out their S-tier subs; first Baggi, now Kanna. I never thought Kanna belonged at S to begin with so this isn’t much of a surprise to me. She’s a great leader, but as a sub her damage enhance doesn’t do much work on top-tier teams because most of them already have high ATK multipliers. It made her a good option for the Arena to deal with the Kalis, but Sakuya and Ra Dragon don’t need her and Ra would have to sacrifice an LKali to run her. I believe her being at S was indicative of Game8 being swayed by offensive power and user popularity.

So, outside of a normal adjustment, what could’ve caused this drop? It may seem like a bit of a stretch, but I think Awoken Thor and now Awoken Loki have made her much less unique, which is one of Game8’s sub criteria. Granted, Thor is much worse than Kanna for the teams she usually subs on, but Loki is actually quite good, especially on Ra Dragon. His damage enhance hits almost the entire team and the TPAs go well with the DKalis when looking to dish out the dark damage. Loki is a decent alternative for Indra in the Arena, giving the team an outside chance of one-shotting either Kali though the 50% shield while still maintaining 100% SBR.

Speaking of Loki, I’m not quite sure if he should make the list, but at the very least he’s as good as some of the other options Game8 has at A.

Okuninushi Underappreciated

2261 - God of the Night, Tsukuyomi Dragon2282 - Placating Founder, Okuninushi
The more I play with Yomi Dragon, the more I’m convinced that the team’s main strength lies in Okuninushi. He just fills so many roles on the team, perhaps the most overlooked is being the highest damage dealer with this two TPAs and 1,819 base ATK. He also provides a much needed dark OE, an awakening that is sort of like SBRs since the team needs to hit five to function at its fullest.

I’m confused why Cao Cao is still S-tier and Okuni isn’t even on the list. He’s easily better than Lumiel and Zuoh and is a key sub for an SS lead. Cao Cao has the advantage of having an orb change, but Okuni’s damage boost is amazing on Yomi Dragon and the time extend over Cao Cao’s row helps bridge the gap further.

Well, it appears NA appreciates him, at least. He’s been hovering around 30th place in the PCGF polls and I’m unsure if he’ll make it in the end, but the fact that he’s even in the picture makes me quite happy. In fact, the entire PCGF field looks pretty good so far; there’s always going to be a few stinkers, but I think the current selection is strong. There’s a long ways to go, though, so it’ll be interesting to see the final results.

  1. I’m hoping for Okuniushi as well. He looks amazing with Yomidra. Another reason I guess why we shouldn’t always trust Game8 for the end-all- be all for rankings.

  2. Hi Setsu,

Your Okuninushi/YomiDragon picture links to CaoCao instead of the right targets.

I’m still hoping to roll either one of them in the upcoming GF haha

  3. I was trying to go back and look at their SS / S / A+ leader rankings over a year or so but there doesn’t seem to be a way to look back through their old lists. Any idea where I can get ahold of them?

  4. Hi Setsu,

I’m deciding whether to get a Shiva or Yomi Dra, depending on what I roll this coming Godfest with ~ 50 stones I will have saved up by then. I would only be able to get one dragon for a very very long time since I won’t do IAP. I quit more than 1.5 years ago, but came back just a month ago.

I’ll be honest that I’m not a very good player and have a hard time using leads like Bastet and Kirin. Personally I’d rather have a few good teams than a bunch that can’t clear descends due to my lack of skills 😦 I’m willing to sell a majority of my REMs so I can get one of the MP dragons and just enjoy the game 🙂

I’m leaning towards ShivaDra at the moment since I have good subs for him plus he is the easiest to use, though I worry about dungeons with binds. YomiDra wont have any problems with that, but there’s quite a bit of descends with dark hate mechanics. I’m not super bad bad and can consistently make 4-5 combos, so YomiDra shouldnt be that much harder to use than ShivaDra and won’t mind taking him/her if she can clear more than ShivaDra.

My goal is to be able to clear as many descends as I can and farm reasonably fast. I like playing PAD during short breaks and not spend too much time on it (another reason why I do not like using combo or multi-color trigger since I have to stare longer at the board). Based on your experience using both and the potentials subs I have, which would you choose?

    Red gods:
Ariel, Uriel, Red Valk, Leilan, Shiva, Minerva, Horus, Ohkami (if uevo’d to white/red)

    Dark gods:
Dmeta, Haku, Pandora, Anubis, d/d Lucifer, DIzanami, Vritra,

    P.S. I voted Okuninushi 😀

    • honestly, this directors choice carnival is pretty solid for Yomidragon. Both Akechi and Okunishi are 3x rates, if we’re lucking PCGF will happen during this carnival 😀

The answer to “which is better” always comes down to the same question. “Arena or Farming speed”. Personally, If I had to choose one, I’d sacrifice the farming speed for the late(r) game viability. I chose both, because.. i am pretty sure I have an addiction.

      • I was considering rolling a few times during the carnival because I could use Okuni, DValk, and Ame (but have every other valk/god)…and then I saw that all of the Chesters were in too, so nooooope, not worth the risk.

Carnival does end on the 26th though, and voting on the 24th, so my Chester harem might increase anyway. And I’d rather have the carnival overlap than a Water Gala, so I guess there’s that! *crosses fingers*

      • Hmm this DC actually look pretty solid and from this carnival I only have G + R Valk and one Chester. I already have half of what is likely to be in PCGF and Akechi and Okuni are both very close at top 28-32 right now. There’s only 23 gods with x3 here (meaning less other x3 competing). Been trying to get DValk too. If I get Ame no Uzume and Sanada then I will have a solid Shiva Dra team. If I get Akechi and Okuni then I will get Yomi Dra.

Shiva Dra/Ares/Uriel/RValk/Sanada + Uzume for bind dungeons
        Yomi Dra/Pandora/Haku/Akechi/Okuni + DIza

Very tempted to roll everything I have tomorrow. Should I should I ?! Chesters will be fodder to the MP drag 😀

  5. Seeing that you have incomplete teams for either, I’d wait until after the PCGF to decide. Contact me after your rolls and I will be glad to help you then.

As things stand, I’d probably go Yomi Dragon. Does Ariel = Ares? If it’s Ares, then it’s a coin toss. You’d have a functional Yomi team with DMeta, Haku, Pandora, and DIza, but your Shiva Dragon team would really struggle with damage even with Uriel’s uuevo. I tried using Shiva Dragon before we got Ares’s split and the damage was less than impressive.

    • Yes, I meant Ares lol :p Hmmm there’s really no good red sub voted in for PCGF and for dark would be another Haku and Okuninushi. I reread my post and I sound pretty set on getting one. Would I be better off waiting for a regular Godfest to try and get Okuninushi?

    • Hi Setsu. Decided to spend all my stones on this carnival and got a Yamato annnnnd Okuni! I wont have anything left for PCGF but I can make

Yomi Dra/okuni/pandora/haku plus dmeta or diza

      Or

      Shiva Dra/ares/uriel/redvalk/yamato

      • First of all: congrats on the rolls! Next: lol, the decision hasn’t gotten much easier. I’d personally go for Yomi Dragon. You won’t have the quite the farming prowess, but I think it’s better suited for the endgame, especially now that you landed yourself an Okuni. The team also has a lot more utility where the Shiva Dragon team is basically all offense. But yeah, it’s a rough decision. I’m glad I don’t have to make it.

        • Thanks! I was losing hope until I got him 2nd to last roll. I’m so pumped right now and cant sleep lol. Already 2 hrs past my bedtime. I’m leaning towards YomiDra now since she will be my endgame team and is actually a good sub too. I dont ever see myself becoming sufficient with endgame leads like Bastet, Yomi, and multicolors. Shiva wont be able to deal with binds. I dont think Yomi will be that much slower, but should be way faster than what I can possibly use right now. Besides I wont be stoning for stam and would be happy to clear dungeons with a playstyle I like aka rows. Awoken Shiva will be my back up team where I cant use YomiDra.

        • Got a Yomi Drag! Looks like I’m set for a very long time. It feels great to finally have some direction and know what to focus on. Thanks a lot for the tips and advice! I wouldn’t have considered Yomi Dra and went straight to Shiva Dra if it weren’t for your posts and replies.

  6. Yeah, I agree with you about Okuninushi. He’s a powerhouse. Until I get a second DKali, he’s a full-time sub on my Ra Chicken team. He brings powerful offense, tons of HP, and a Delay – which is only 1 round, but it’s on a short enough timer to use multiple times, and even 1 turn might as well be a board shuffle+haste 1 Active.

His only downside – his RCV – isn’t much of a downside at all on a RaDra team.

    • I don’t know about ideal, but a while back I suggested this:

Quick Thoughts on the NA and JP Streams 9/18/15

In addition to those subs, Apollo probably makes the short list, especially once Saria hits NA, since he combines with Saria for an ideal board.

As for leads, Saria is obviously a lot better than Himi Udon, but Himi Udon is available now. Only problem is that I’m guessing it’ll be close to impossible to find someone who actually leads with one.

  7. Actually I just like you found Okuninushis absence from the list strange, so I checked his grading and its 9.0, which just proves Game8 is more fucked up than we realise. The S ranked subs all have a 9,5+ grade except DIza with 9.0, so we think 9+ should equal S. Well nope. A+ Subs are a mix of 8.5 AND 9.0 and A rank Subs range from 7.0(Zuoh) to 8.5(Andromeda, Karin, Leilan). At this point we should really start questioning the authority of this “tier” list.

    • Just found other inconsistencies other subs with high grades(Osiris,Scarlet-8.5, The Valkyries and All Awoken Norse gods are 8.0) are absent it looks like the list is based on popularity and not the actual usefulness of the subs.

      • I usually say that sub lists are generally garbage.
The problem being that each sub fills a role, and playing their role is hyper important, and ignored by Game8’s List.

        Roles:
Utility (Spike, Shield, Bind Clear, VERY team dependent)
Offensive Orb Change (Lkali, Ares, Hermes)
        Defensive Orb Change (Heroes, Archangels)
Board Change* Kali’s, Norns, Chinese Spirits, ect.
*You usually need one, I consider them different than orb changers because they are less controllable, you sometimes get very bad random boards, and you often want an orb changer to pair with your board change, to help defend against said randomness, Kali’s are better about this :-p

Spike and Shield are the most “powerful” (Re: Needed) Utilities. Some teams need a spike to kill Fatty, or Awoken Meimei, some teams need a damage shield to survive DQ Hera, or Goemon Preemtives. Delay is ultimately, “nice to have” but rarely needed, it being tacked on a spike is incredible, as Delay is best used to defeat things with resolve (Hino for instance)

My issue with Game8’s sub list. Is they don’t seem to factor in usage at all, making their list completely irrelevant. Which is odd, since for their leaders they take into account sub organization, and use their “sample team” to determine leader strength.

In fact, I hate CaoCao being S, because 90% of the time you’ll use him for an orb change, making it a 9 turn Water-fire, with an occasional utility, as opposed to a 9 Turn CD 1 turn Delay, with an orb change tacked on.

Okuni, 90% of the time you use him as a spike, and occasionally the delay will be sweet. Making him an 8 turn spike, with a 1 Turn Delay tacked on, which is an excellent place to take it on.

TLDR: Ignore the subs list, its just terrible.

      • The sub list has been garbage for a long time. The leader list has problems, but is pretty acceptable for a tier list.

I wouldn’t let the ratings from the rest of the site influence your judgment of the tier list. While they aren’t mutually exclusive, they do have different criteria and there’s been discrepancies since the first list came out.

I won’t deny that popularity has a lot to do with the rankings, though. If not that, then there’s obviously some other factor at work because many of their ranking changes aren’t based on card changes.

  8. Hi, I’m definitely not a pro at this game! I was wondering if you could explain why Cao Cao is an S-ranked sub, and what kind of teams he should be used on?

    Like

    • Cao Cao is highly regarded because he’s the best overall Awoken Shiva sub. While it doesn’t have any extremely strong attributes, he is solid across the board and provides a ton of utility. For example, the two components of his active — and orb change and a 1-turn delay — aren’t particularly strong individually at 9 turns, but when they accessible from a single sub slot his flexibility starts to shine. He also does a good deal of damage, has two skill boosts and perhaps most importantly has a skill bind resist. Then you factor in various synergies like he has with Urd and you have a fairly strong monster.

Whether he deserves to be S-tier or not is another story altogether, though.
