Nephthys and Astaroth Stats Revealed

Check out the translations at PDX. I wasn’t expecting much from Nephthys (reducing her cooldown to 10 turns is a great change, though), but Astaroth is really disappointing. The active still has the counterattack and is still at seven turns, making it worse than Satsuki’s in almost every situation. I’ve come to enjoy unbindability quite a bit with Ra Dragon, but there’s almost no point to it on a monster like this (see: Parvati). Limiting her leader skill to devils and healers is also questionable as two of the best wood row options, Artemis and Ishida, don’t qualify. After all the power creep we’ve seen recently, releasing an awoken monster that’s basically inferior to Raoh in every way is flat out disappointing.

    • It’s disappointing, for sure. Here’s hoping there’s a wood dragonbound in the works to save wood rows. Err, wait a minute, let’s not because having to roll for GFEs, especially 6-stars, is downright disgusting.

    • Hopefully upgrades are on their way. If not, then hopefully added support is on its way. This may just be a sign that the power creep train has ended, though, which may be a good thing for the short term.

      • honestly if they buffed to 1.5 HP/Attack it would be a totally reasonable card, solid Green row lead, would have enough HP paired with Freyja to be a very solid tanky-team, Or double up on them and double Michael for a really solid amount of healing (4k auto, plus minimum 4 healer’s on the team.)

Nephthys is exactly what it was always going to be, so.. shrug? I’m surprised her CD got buffed, it’s too bad she has been power-creeped out as a leader, but that is the nature of pad in 2015 lol. The Sphinx is adorable, and I want to torture a cat by making it look like that for halloween.

  1. I’m very disappointed. Neph doesn’t cut it as a leader anymore, and this active, at best, makes her a shitty okuni replacement. I can’t see any situations where she’s better then him..
The new awoken pantheon is a joke.

  2. Bleargh….as disappointing as we all know Astaroth is (her active skill is the SAME like what the hell GH) I can’t bring myself to hate her because her art is just so damn good. Totally get why the PAD artist is your favorite, I think I have myself a new favorite aside from the Fire Emblem guy (but he’s only done like what, Kirin? His FE art though is AMAZING). I hope Belial gets something good because I have 2 but I wouldn’t mind +5,000 MP. Same deal with FA Lucifer…

    Nephthys is too cute.

    • yes. Her awokens are excellent for that team, and her active is (in some ways) better than okuni’s, as it works with Haku very well. especially if you had just gotten Beelzebub’d or something.

Don’t get me wrong, the delay is sweet, but it’s “nice” not “game changing”. Okuni is better, don’t mistake that, but Neph is an acceptable replacement.

  3. Both are a complete piece of crap, Astaroth the worst and a prelude that the other demons will be much crap like her. Now I got a reason to sell all of the Archdemons I hold in my boxes.

    • For Astaroth, let’s wait and see if JP complains enough and whether GungHo gives in to them first. She may be disappointing, but she’ll surely have some place on some team in the future. Now with an SBR, an orb changer with two skill boosts and three rows will have a place. Belial and Baal could be particularly good since their orb changes combo with Leilan and Superman respectively.

  4. I’m hoping GungHo made Astaroth underwhelming on purpose with the full intention of buffing her. If she starts weak they can buff her, but if they started her off too strong then there’s nothing they can do about it.

They really need to do away with the counter mechanic, though. It’s nearly useless.

  5. Pretty underwhelming for Astaroth, but it might be pretty decent for Belial, Amon, and Baal. FAL has a completely different active though, so I’m wondering how that’s going to be reworked.

    • I think Belial and Baal will be particularly relevant since they combo with Leilan and Superman respectively. Especially with Belial already being a key Raoh sub. Amon combos with Summer Urd, but that’s a bit less relevant. I’m expecting big things from the Amon art, though.

  6. I was initially pretty disappointed with Astaroth, but doesn’t it depend on what the HP/ATK boost is? As Ben says, a 1.5x hp/atk would be pretty solid. In fact, even 1.35 would be quite good (although that leader skill would arguably be worse than the Egyptian 2s, who aren’t even awoken).

Consider Freyja/Cauchemar/Michael/Michael/Kushi/Astaroth: 14 rows, full SBR, and over 11k RCV with 5k autoheal. Ceres can slot in for Kushi if you need a bind clear, you’ve got two heartmakers to combat heart troll, and a Cauchemar/Astaroth/Freyja 3-row spike does just over 23m damage (assuming 1.35; 1.5 would be almost exactly 26m).

The team definitely has its weaknesses: only one spike that takes 12 turns to come up again, only 1 time extend, hp is a tad low at 31,259 (assuming 1.35; at 1.5 it’s fine at 34,732), and only 6 s+…but the ability to easily heal for 25k+ a turn and then deliver an easy 10m spike (2 rows + 2 combos would do it) covers for a lot.

You could also sub Zuoh for Cauchemar, which would address some of these issues at the cost of some damage.

  7. Can gung-ho please just stop with counterattack. It does nothing. Or at least balance the multiplier so it is somewhat relevant. Her skill would be very good at 6 cooldown with no counter.
