Santa Claus’s skyfall buff is still rather unique which makes him an appealing option, but since he’ll presumably only be available for skill ups for a couple of days during the Christmas Event one will likely have to utilize stamina refreshes to max skill him. So the question becomes: “is he worth it?”. He’s not bad for a descended boss, but considering his narrow uses he simply isn’t for most players.

Just How Good is the Active?
Luckily we have a good prescendent with Zidane whose active is exactly the same outside of the elements being buffed. It’s not like Zidane is a very desirable sub even with the haste and ability to loop the buff a la Zaerog∞. Considering Zidane has arguably better awakenings and reasonably similar stats, things don’t bode well for Santa. The main problem is that buffing two elements by 10% is considerably worse than one for 15%. Most teams that would enjoy this effect are mono-element, meaning that the secondary orb type is only a nuisance. However, there are some leaders that could enjoy both buffs which I’ll cover in a bit. It’s also possible to utilize an orb changer to change one type to the other. Fire can use something like Chiyome or Uriel to convert light to fire. Unfortunately light’s only option to change fire to light is Erwin who isn’t available on NA.
Comparisons aside, the value of a farmable haste should not be overlooked. While the power of the dual skyfall buff may be questionable, the power of haste is not.
The Value of a Farmable Skill Bind Resist
There still aren’t very many great farmable skill bind resist options in the game, but light has access to a few of the best in Elia, Nordis and Sonia Gran. PAD Bear, Xuanzang and the future Heimdall are nice late-game options and Quilt Angel is an easy to skill up option for the mid-game. Considering the options, Santa doesn’t stand out all that much, but he does have one of the better active skills to pair with that SBR.
Uses as a Sub
In an attempt to put a positive spin on Santa’s active, he does buff the elements that both Tsubaki and Ilm need to activate. He’s better on Tsubaki than on Ilm despite being off-element as his orb enhances and the potential multiple haste synergy are a better fit. He’s still fine on Ilm, but that team wants a critical mass of orbs on demand, not a slight skyfall chance over time. Perhaps his greatest asset is that he comes with a skill bind resist, making it easy to reach 100% with the rest of the team.
He’s also decent on teams that really only need one of the buffed skyfall elements and can also take advantage of the enhanced orb awakenings like Pollux, Antares, or Krishna (while the skyfall buffs clash, just a one-turn haste isn’t a terrible thing). He’s obviously a better fit on light-based teams than fire, but isn’t a terrible option for those still in the early- or mid-game and need a filler sub, especially those desperate to hit 100% SBR.
Uses as a Leader
As with most sub-conditional leaders, Santa Claus isn’t very impressive. While a flat 25x ATK and 6.25x HP is pretty nice, running three subs with 380 weighted stats, no awakenings and a useless active skill offsets that. Perhaps the most prominent point is that people would rather use the Snow Globes as exp fodder rather than have them rot on a mediocre gimmick team.
Santa Claus is a fine farmable monster with an attractive active skill and a valuable skill bind resist, but like most fine farmable monsters, most players won’t find investing in him worth the resources. I assume most players will snag one for the novelty, with only the most dedicated players spending the resources to skill up one; even less doing two.
