Introduction: This is an attempt to aggregate the various JP leader lists, hopefully resulting in a more consistent list. On top of the usual skepticism associated with tier lists, take this list with a grain of salt as I’m still tweaking the aggregation method. I try to address any anomalies in the post, so please read it in its entirety before asking questions.

Notes: GameWith rocked the boat this week, so I took the opportunity to make a few changes to the way the aggregate list is compiled. First, I reworked the impact a non-grade has on a given card’s score. Previously, a single site not grading a card made it impossible to place in a numbered tier. It will still be difficult, but at least now there’s a chance (see: Ichigo, who still isn’t graded by GameWith). Second, I added a fourth numbered tier. Now that Ra Dragon is once again the undisputed best leader in the game, it belongs in its own tier. Lastly, I changed the way leader pairs are processed. This won’t make much difference from a reader’s viewpoint, but I made several under-the-hood changes to improve support. With all these changes in mind, please use your discretion when evaluating the tiers and changes.

GameWith: I’ll go over the GameWith changes more in its own section, but in addition to making some huge changes, they took farming proficiency out of their leader list equation entirely and instead made a separate farming list.

JP Aggregate Leader List β Changes of Note

Card Notes
2261 - God of the Night, Tsukuyomi Dragon
Change: 1➞2

GameWith took the initiative and downgraded Yomi Dragon which resulted in it being booted out of the rarefied air now solely occupied by Ra Dragon. This is particularly relevant to NA as we just got Arena 2 where Yomi Dragon just doesn’t cut it anymore. Yes, Yomi Dragon is still one of the best Arena 1 leaders in the game, but if the endgame is to be measured by Arena 2 then this downgrade makes sense. Whether Arena 2 is a fair representation of the endgame, well, that’s another story. Then there’s the possible impact of skill inheritance, but that’s an issue that’ll have to be addressed at a later date.

2253 - Destroyer God, Shiva Dragon
Change: 2➞3

Game8 is now the only list that champions Shiva Dragon as an endgame lead (although AppMedia is on the fence). While it’s one of my most used teams, I’ve never once used Shiva Dragon to clear endgame content, if that makes any difference.

2445 - The Greatest Enemy, Raoh
Change: 2➞3

It looks like the love affair with Raoh has been cut short. GameWith’s downgrade makes a lot of sense since they took farming out of the equation, but AppMedia’s backpedaling is reminiscent of Game8’s. I overall agree with this new position.

2392 - Awoken Freyr
Change: 2➞❀

Game8 and GameWith broke Raoh’s association with Freyr which is something I wholeheartedly agree with and even argued for last week. Basically, the Freyr leader pair is just a tool in Raoh’s arsenal, but isn’t critical to the team’s success.

2679 - Asst Capt of 13th Squad, Rukia Kuchiki
Change: 2➞3

Rukia’s downgrade is a result of my fiddling with the aggregate scoring system; there was no movement on any of the tier lists.

2507 - Awoken Archdemon Lucifer
Change: 2➞3

I’ve seen a number of debates on Lucifer vs. Pandora, most of which are unconvincing either way. This is usually reflective of them being on the same level or a gross misevaluation by the players. At the very least GameWith seems to think Pandora is significantly better.

2011 - Awoken Bastet
Change: 3➞4

Tier-4 was basically created for Bastet, Ra, Sakuya, and Yomi; once elite leaders who are still great, but can’t compete at the highest levels anymore. Tier-3 and above only include cards that have HP and/or RCV multipliers which is telling of where the endgame meta is shifting (although I can’t really explain Anubis).

2677 - Hollow Ichigo Kurosaki
Change: ❀➞4

Ichigo still isn’t rated by GameWith, but my scoring changes allowed him to make tier-4. At this point it’s questionable whether they’ll grade him at all; the last time something was in their holding tank this long was Ragnarok Dragon who ended up not making it.

Unlike its fellow sites, Game8 has been quiet as of late. This is one thing that’s always bothered me about Game8: they’re quick to make snap judgments on new cards — which often end up being wrong — but they’re snail-like when it comes to reevaluating their existing grades as the meta shifts.

2507 - Awoken Archdemon Lucifer

Such a clear and concise list; I’m a fan of that aspect at least. Also, by explicitly taking farming out of the picture we no longer have to guess why a certain lead is graded where it is *cough*Shiva Dragon*cough*. I’ve noticed some of their evaluation criteria has changed, too, but I’m not sure when it was. Anyways, their criteria can be summed up as such:

  • Can you clear the most difficult dungeons?
  • What is your clear percentage of said dungeons?
  • Reliance on luck will lower your rating. This is mainly addressing the ability to fully activate on a given board, i.e. Anubis.
  • The difficulty/cost to obtain the optimal subs is not considered.
  • Parties that take too long to clear are not considered i.e. tank/cheese teams.
  • Multiplayer is not considered.

GameWith Changes of Note

Card Notes
2505 - Awoken Astaroth
Change: A➞S

This grade is likely the one I’m most opposed to in their entire list. Astaroth is a very strong lead, no doubt, but wood is in such a bad place right now that I can’t put her on the same level as Pandora or above Raoh. There are many reasons why wood is currently disadvantaged, but the most obvious are the punishing endgame fire matchups; the Kalis, Lifive, Goemon, and Shiva to name a few; hell, may as well add Awoken Meimei to that list. I also find that the lack of time extends makes the team very difficult to use (if only Perseus got healer or devil instead of the mostly useless dragon attribute). As for reasons why she’d be ranked so high, I think it’s in deference to her HP multiplier combined with her bind immunity and a sub pool that provides great healing.

2662 - Awoken Pandora
Change: A➞S

I’ve been using Pandora quite often lately and can say this upgrade is well warranted. It will only get better for NA once we get uuevo Pandora and uevo Zuoh.

2253 - Destroyer God, Shiva Dragon
Change: Removed from S

Shiva Dragon, Ilm and Cloud were all removed from the list as they’re basically only farming leads at this point. Instead, GameWith made a separate farming list.

2445 - The Greatest Enemy, Raoh
Change: S➞A

I can only assume last week’s upgrade was an attempt to quantify Raoh’s proficiency in both farming and clearing endgame content; now that farming is out of the equation, he dips back down to A.

2261 - God of the Night, Tsukuyomi Dragon
Change: S➞B

There’s much that can be discussed about Yomi Dragon’s current place in the meta, but in terms of an endgame leader list this change makes a certain amount of sense. Yomi Dragon was never as good as Ra Dragon, but when the endgame barometer was Arena 1 and Yomi Dragon got Eschamali there wasn’t an appreciable difference. Now that the endgame has an increased emphasis on utility, Ra Dragon, who can run just about every utility sub in the game without having to give up much damage, is clearly superior. That being said, it’s not like Yomi Dragon has gotten worse and is still one of the best Arena 1 options. If GameWith emphasizes Arena 2 and other difficult endgame content (like soloing Machine Zeus), this grade makes sense. Otherwise, I’d still consider Yomi Dragon as one of the elite leaders in the game. That being said, do I agree with this change? I’d say a two-tier demotion was a bit excessive, but I can certainly appreciate the point they’re trying to make.

2507 - Awoken Archdemon Lucifer
Change: A➞B

GameWith has made their stance clear in the Lucifer vs. Pandora debate. I don’t want to get too deep into it, but as a shitter I appreciate the time extends that come with the Pandora team. However, even though I prefer Pandora, I don’t think they should be separated by two tiers.

2389 - Awoken Sakuya
Change: Removed from B

I can see Bastet and Yomi dropping off, but Sakuya falling while Ra stays is a huge surprise for me. I guess once could argue Sakuya is hurt by GameWith’s “luck” criteria, but then why is Anubis ranked so high?

AppMedia is so erratic and unreliable I’m starting to lose interest in their list. I was trying to avoid weighing a given list less than the others, but AppMedia’s flipflopping is trying my patience. In addition, their A-tier should basically be ignored at this point. I’m strongly considering omitting it altogether (I’d also cut out Game8’s A-tier if I did so).

AppMedia Changes of Note

Card Notes
2261 - God of the Night, Tsukuyomi Dragon
Change: SS➞S+

AppMedia seems to concur with GameWith if not to the same degree.

2013 - Awoken Anubis
Change: S➞S+

I’m not sure why Anubis is getting so much love lately. Yes, with some amount of luck you can clear just about anything, but there are so few people that can use him, let alone reliably, that I’m skeptical as to why he’s always rated so high.

2253 - Destroyer God, Shiva Dragon
Change: S+➞S

Amusingly, Game8 was the first to downgrade Shiva Dragon, but after they backtracked they’re now the list that has it rated the highest.

2445 - The Greatest Enemy, Raoh
Change: S+➞S

AppMedia is the only list that retains the association between Raoh and Freyr.

1949 - Lightning Black Dragonbound, Typhon
Change: Removed from A+

Typhon completely disappeared from their entire list, which can’t be right as he should at least be in their B-tier. Meanwhile, the non-Wukong Heroes are still missing.

  1. It’s interesting that they leave out some farming teams that I thought were strong, like ZuohxMeimei and KannaxApocalypse.

    Like

    • When compared to the other teams on their list, those two are slow and inconsistent. The Meimei system was good for like two weeks before Shiva Dragon hit. Kanna was never good for farming. Keep in mind that this is all relative.

  2. hey setsu, i was just wondering if you had an opinion on why shiva is consistently ranked below bastet. as you’ve said, the meta is shifting towards rcv/hp multipliers, which shiva has, and though it doesn’t have as high of a burst, it does more consistent damage (especially with double tpa leaders and high atk of fire subs making up for the difference) and their ideal subs have around the same utility. you’ve also said wood is in a bad place right now, so shouldn’t shiva be at least ranked the same?

    • You haven’t been following the lists for very long if you think a couple of weeks is “constantly”. Even looking at this week’s list the only site that rates them differently is AppMedia who I’ve already said has pretty questionable ratings (and by their own admission their list is a work in progress). But to your point, no, there isn’t an appreciable difference.

    • Is this really something that needs to be explained? Think about it like this: what other lead in the game can clear as much endgame content as consistently?

  3. Hey Setsu, Is Neptune dragon better than yomi dragon at arena 2? If so, why? What’s the optimal team for a neptune dragon? And on a Ra Dragon team, who would be replaced for utility and who’s the best utility for Ra dragon?

    Thanks!

    • Not Setsu, but yes NepDra is more consistent at Arena 2.0 than YomiDra, albeit with a fairly strict team comp. NepDra/Orochi/Gabriel/Blonia/Hermes/Nepdra. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIfm5jiL2gs is a video of the team in action, latents used are 27 dark resists and 3 skill delay resists (2 on friend NepDra and 1 on own).

    • I don’t think any of those subs you listed are critical to a Ryune-I&I team. It looks like you have a pretty solid core: I&I / Gabriel / Karin / Hatsume / flex / Ryune. Not sure what you’d run in your flex spot. Siegfried is fine. Berry Dragon isn’t the worst. Snow White is a great bind clearer. You’ll eventually want something with an SBR to hit 100% (Hermes, Andromeda, Mori, BSonia, etc). You can use Sharon for that in the mean time. Kind of an off the wall suggestion, but since you already have her maybe Awoken Haku isn’t the worst temporary choice (she also combos with Hatsume).

      • Good to know, always enjoyed Water teams, but never had leaders like Blonia, Andromeda or Lakshimi. I’m a casual player who plays since the early days. IAPed a few times, and I’m always trying to build some cool teams, but with little time to play. I&I and Saria/Thor are my next goals to team build (Saria I’m missing even more cards). Keep it up with the good work.
