Collab REM Review – Bleach

It’s easy to get excited for NA’s first high-profile collab since Fist of the North Star in November, but almost all players should temper their expectations for the Bleach Collab. While the six-star top-end in Rukia and Ichigo are about as good as collab rolls get, this REM basically ends there as there’s a distinct lack of usefulness from both the four- and five-star rarities. What’s particularly striking is the lack of even a single standout silver which has been a trend in most special and collab REMs for a while now. Hitsugaya and Urahara have great farming potential, but even at five-star rarity getting the triples needed for them to reach their full potential is a tall order for most players. Unless you’re a fan of the IP or just to want throw stones at GungHo for the chance of Rukia or Ichigo, I’d strongly suggest passing on this REM.

For those curious, here are some roll numbers from Pad-Plus. The numbers seem fairly typical, with the six-stars being about 2-3% and the five-stars at 5-6%.

Rukia – S
2679 - Asst Capt of 13th Squad, Rukia Kuchiki
Pros
  • By far the best roll in the REM
  • Excellent damage (56.25x) and RCV multipler
  • The perfect home for water’s once leaderless TPA subs
  • Trades offensive awakenings for utility and sub flexibility
Cons
  • Best subs lacking time extends can make her difficult to use for some players
Notes
If you follow my JP Aggregate Leader List, then you’ll know that Rukia has consistently been regarded as an elite leader since her release. Her attack multiplier is fairly high for a combo-based leader skill and her RCV boost gives her tankiness comparable to most of today’s top leads. Add a solid column spawning active with haste and a surprisingly strong water TPA sub pool and you have a great leader.
Her only knocks are being bindable and having no offensive awakenings. As there are very few cards that have the trifecta of bind immunity, high attack and RCV multipler, there’s only so much one can expect (I believe only Ra Dragon, Yomi Dragon and Ushio & Tora qualify. Astaroth might be considered an exception, too). As for her offense, she can make up for that with subs like Scheat and Orochi; her SBRs make up for their lack thereof and her combo-based leader skill makes it easier to stack TPA matches to further increase their damage potential.
One should not forget the player skill factor, though. Eight combos is not a simple feat for most players, especially when you add TPAs into the equation. Most Bastet players eventually find that reaching seven combos is quite doable, but you also have to remember that the team is overflowing with time extends where Rukia’s best subs generally lack them. That being said, Rukia is still at a Bastet-level of offsense even at seven combos and on top of that you don’t have to use an active to get there (not to mention the RCV multipler). So if you think Bastet is capable, then Rukia is that much better.
I see Rukia being one of the few collab leaders that actually justifies the cost to obtain which is high praise, for sure.

Ichigo – A
2677 - Hollow Ichigo Kurosaki
Pros
  • DKali board change
  • Excellent awakenings
  • 76x ATK multiplier
  • God killer awakening
  • Leader skill scales well
Cons
  • Active-reliant leader skill
Notes
Ichigo is quite powerful, but I have to admit that I overestimated his capabilities when I first saw him. It feels like he has all the components of a broken lead: DKali board change, high ATK multiplier, an RCV multiplier, and great awakenings. While all those attributes do indeed contribute in making him a great lead, his constraints also prevent him from breaking into the elite level. While his leader skill’s active reliance can be built around, the meta has advanced far enough beyond the Egypt 1 power level where such such a constraint can’t be overlooked, nor does he bring enough to the table to overcome it. Not being able to burst or heal on demand without an active use is a huge demerit, especially when considering dungeons like Arena 1 and 2 where active conservation in the later floors is of utmost importance. While there are certainly other nitpicks — like having rather poor damage for a rainbow activation… yeah, 76x is weak nowadays, blame Ra Dragon — this is the main reason why Ichigo is inferior to other, similar leads.
That being said, he’ll make a great Sephiroth sub. There’a also skill inheritance.

5-Star Gold Eggs

Grades are given relative to monsters of the same rarity.

Hitsugaya – B (A for co-op farming)
2691 - Capt of 10th Squad, Toshiro Hitsugaya
Pros
  • Easy co-op farming
  • Poorman’s Neptune Dragon
Cons
  • Need dupes/trips for effective co-op farming
Notes
Hitsugaya’s main asset is his ability to trivialize farming through co-op. A change to multiplayer that has yet to hit NA is the sharing of skill boosts between both teams. This means Hitsugaya’s two skill boosts make it possible for his 17-turn board change to be up on the first turn without too much work. For the most part Neptune Dragon is used to lead these teams, but for players that don’t have one, leading with Hitsugaya himself appears to be a good option. For those chasing the six-stars that also enjoy co-op, getting dupes of this card will be a nice little bonus from an otherwise poor REM.
Outside that he doesn’t have much use and is basically just a bad Neptune Dragon. That in itself has some value, though, as players that previously had no leader can now find some use for their water box and put any Neptune Dragon friends to use.

Urahara – B (A- as a system)
2689 - Former R&D Chief, Kisuke Urahara
Pros
  • Easy system farming
  • Possible future jammer implications
Cons
  • Needs triples for effective farming
  • No skill bind resist
Notes
Where Hitsugaya is for co-op, Urahara is for solo, minimal-effort farming. His main appeal is basically only having to match the jammers he generates to do respectable damage thanks to a 25x multiplier and plenty of rows. With four on your team — Both leads and two subs — you can loop his actives, qualifying as a system team. Like the Cloud system, the team affords two flex slots for damage or utility, but unlike Cloud this team can have trouble reaching 100% SBR. It also doesn’t benefit from a generous HP multiplier, which can make multiple/large preemptives a bit trickier to navigate. At the very least, this team helps alleviate the pain NA has experienced due to the lack of Gon; Urahara’s not nearly as good for general use, but NA will appreciate having access to a decent wood-based farming team.
Outside system farming, Urahara doesn’t have many applications. Despite GungHo pushing jammer support down our throats, it still hasn’t taken off and I’m not sure if it ever will. He has some interesting possible interactions as a sub. Algedi is the obvious fit, but he’s not terrible for a Spica row team, either. While maybe not as good as Osiris due to the lack of OEs, he still has the same, quick cooldown, generates an additional wood orb, creates jammers that can subsequently be changed by Spica, and actually has a skill boost.

Kenpachi – C+
2695 - Squad 11 Captain, Kenpachi Zaraki
Pros
  • An orb enhance + delay could have niche applications
Cons
  • Doesn’t resist the most important element: dark
  • Low 9x multiplier, requiring six orbs
Notes
I don’t even know where to start. Kenpachi is basically a bad version of Castor. Amusingly, a match-five activation would’ve made more sense as it would have synergy with his active skill. His active is his most attractive point, though, and could maybe see use as an assist skill on dark match-five teams that also need a delay (to address perseverance monsters, for instance).

4-Star Silver Eggs

Grades are given relative to monsters of the same rarity.

Chad – B-
2685 - La Muerte, Yasutora Sado
Pros
  • Great skill inheritance assist skill
  • Row spawn makes solving the board simpler
Cons
  • No skill boost
Notes
Chad is one of the better silvers in this REM if only for his excellent active skill. In rare cases you might use his actual card, but for the most part I foresee him being used as an assist skill especially on speed farming teams. Putting his skill on Tengu seems particularly attractive.

Rangiku – C-
2693 - Squad 10 Lieutenant, Rangiku Matsumoto
Pros
  • Kyonyuu
Cons
  • Kyonyuu
Notes
I’m not even going to waste time trying to make up a use for this card.

Orihime – C
2681 - SantenKesshun, Orihime Inoue
Pros
  • Skill inheritance
Cons
Notes
Orihime is fairly hopeless as a card, but there is some mild hope for her with skill inheritance. Her active is quite flexible defensively and the usefulness of the hearts in addition to the shield shouldn’t be underestimated. While shields aren’t normally thought of as a rare skill due to all the farmables, there are only about 10 cards that qualify for inheritance that aren’t from a special or collab REM. Then add the relative low cost of obtaining Tans and this situation isn’t all that unfeasible. The main drawback is that she requires Woodpys to skill up, but a base cooldown of 10-turns isn’t horrendous.

Yoruichi – C+
2687 - Former Cmdr of Stealth Force, Yoruichi
Pros
  • Active can help HP threshold teams
Cons
Notes
It’s a bit disappointing that this could have been an NA Shiryu stand-in, but being at 11 turns rather than nine is a large drawback for speed farming teams. She’s a mildly interesting Gon sub, but, of course, NA doesn’t have that option so the next best thing is GZL.

Ishida – B
2683 - Quincy, Uryu Ishida
Pros
  • NA’s first light-only skyfall buff
Cons
  • Can’t loop actives with only two cards
Notes
This is about as close light gets to an Indian 2/Zaerog skyfall-style active. However, trading a turn of skyfall for an extra spawned orb is a raw deal as you can’t loop actives with only two cards. Awoken Apollo will intrude on his uniqueness, whenever he gets released here. Of all the Bleach silvers, Ishida is the most respectable leader.

Conclusion

As it goes with most collabs, the Bleach REM is mostly trash with a couple standouts at the highest rarities and a few role players at the lower end. The value is particularly bad for casual players as the silvers are all basically unusable, even in the extreme early-game. This makes Bleach an abberation as recent special and collab REMs have had a standout at the lower rarities: NY: Sandalphon, Christmas: all the silvers, FotNS: Mamiya, Eva: Shinji, Halloween: Izanami and Thoth & Sopdet, Summer: Awilda. The exceptions are Final Fantasy and Batman, but at least FF has Squall at five-star and Batman gets a pass for having such an outdated lineup. So basically Bleach has the worst low-end lineup since the last chibi hell that was PAD Academy. People are going to roll anyways, but hopefully this review gives you an idea of what to expect for your stones.

I’m not sure how much I’m going to roll. What I want most is 3x Urahara. 3x Hitsugaya would also be nice. I don’t care too much for the six-stars, but Rukia would be nice in case I ever roll a Scheat. I need to remember to keep a few Chads on hand for farming applications, too. I’d like to limit my spending, though, as the more ammunition I have for the next iterations of Final Fantasy, PAD Academy and PAD Island the better. Good luck to those who roll!

  1. As much as I love Bleach, it seems like the only card worth while is Rukia and that’s only if you have a scheat! =(… the other cards are nice but they aren’t that much better… I guess I’ll just skip this and level up a Byakuya for a push button team.

Thank you for the review! Always enjoy these

btw… Did you see the Academy Renewal? Oh my gosh.. Athena waifu… not only is she even cuter but she has amazing weighted stats..2k attack with 3 TPAs and unbindable/rows.. ughh so tempted when it comes here haha.. basically our version of Gon right?

    • That’s really just collab REMs in a nutshell. The only difference with Bleach is there isn’t that one super silver that could improve the EV, especially if you’re only going to roll a handful of times. I mean, even if there was a super silver the EV is still horrible, but at least you have a decent chance of getting something useful, is what I mean. I think FotNS was an outlier where there was relatively great value at both silver and gold.

I have three school Athenas already, so in the process of rolling if I pick up another I’m going to hyper all 4 forms… I wouldn’t compare her to Gon, though, as 9x doesn’t even come close to 27x. She definitely has potential, though, especially with skill inheritance.

  2. Good to know that the only card tempting me is Rukia, but with only Orochi and Nut as a premier TPA sub (and even they’re not as good as the 2x Scheat shennanigans for sure) I feel comfortable passing. If/When FF part 2 comes around….eep. But for now, I need to settle down, lick my wounds from the previous trollfest, and wait for 10x +eggs.

Good luck to anyone rolling 🙂

      • By the way, it appears you were right in your speculations. Boy you know this game way too well.

In two days 10x starts up again ^_^ Time to…wish I hadn’t rolled 9 times in godfest? I don’t really regret it, it was honestly the perfect fest for my box, my luck just didn’t stack up. And that’s fine.

  3. As bad as the odds are, I really really want to chase after that Rukia. Given that last couple godfests left me sitting on a Skuld an Orochi and 3x Scheat I’m having a really tough time talking myself out of it.

I mean it won’t be that usable for awhile with all the +eggs that are needed but these collabs only come so often…

    • I’d love to, but which so much crap headed our way in the next few months I’m going to have to pull my punches. I’ll be rolling maybe 4-5 packs max and if I get 3x Urahara I’ll stop there.

          • I was wondering why you where going to roll so many packs for this line up of monsters?I’m sorry if I offended.I certainly didn’t mean too.Is it ur standard amount for every colab? This colab was disappointing to say the least, especially when I am such a Bleach fan.I rolled in the hopes of Ichigo since I love his character in the manga as well as the anime. So I rolled 7 times and all silvers.I rolled once a few days later and out popped a gold…..BUT it was Kenpachi which is by far the worst gold in the bunch.I vowed that on lay day I would roll 60 stones for my beloved Ichigo, do I did just that.I rolled 13 times and got 1 Kisuke, 2 Hitsugia, and 2 Ichigo. By the way I love everything u do for the PAD community.I follow ur Blog and subscribe to ur vids on utube. Thanks for all ur hard work!!!

  4. Really tempted to roll a pack for rukia/ ichigo, since statistically speaking, I have the chance to get one of them per pack … Either of them would be really useful to me since I rolled a scheat (though until I roll a more reliable bind clear I will have to wait before I attempt true high end dungeons. As for ichigo, I would probably sub him on my RaDra team to make up for the lack of a second dkali. However since x10 +eggs for descends is coming back, not to mention there are rumors of another pcgf coming again on the horizon … decisions decisions.

    • Your stats are mistaken. Let’s say you have a 6% chance to roll a 6-star; using the binomial distribution, in 17 rolls you have a 65% chance to roll one. Bump that up to 8%, you have a 75% chance. For a single one at 3%, you have a 40% chance.

  5. I have so many decent blue cards but have never played a blue team. I’ll probably throw a pack to see if I get Rukia. If I do I’ll start a blue team!

  6. I’m currently sitting on a Sephiroth which makes Ichigo kind of the killer subs, though I imagine D.Kali on A.Horus would prob be tops simply for the low cool down as 2xSBR (even if I have neither of them).

I also have a Fenrir making Urahara possibly useful. And while I only have Nut and B.Valk as TPA subs, Rukia wouldn’t be awful to get.

The question is, do I roll for Ichigo if I already have Sephiroth and don’t need to roll in FF2? Especially if the farmable rainbow boards aren’t particularly helpful (Jormungandr has no SBR and Volsung needs the team to be built around him).

    Like

    • I don’t think Urahara or Fenrir are good on each others’ teams.

Not really sure if rolling for collab gold is the greatest idea if Sephiroth is the team you’re doing it for. But if Sephiroth is your thing, then it’s worth it.

  7. Less than 2 packs for the full set incl. 2 rukias and 2 ichigos. Not sure these systems are really worth rolling for :/

  8. Woohoo! Got Ichigo on my 6th and final roll. I’m currently planning on keeping him pre-ult since I have no such luck rolling a DKali for my yolo Ra Dragon purchase.

  9. Completed the set within 30 rolls…I had gotten everyone except rukia within 25 rolls…and I was telling myself I shouldn’t roll…after I rolled four more times…that lasted like half a day…

Bought a 30 pack to farm 10x and thought to roll maybe once or twice…and out came a gold egg…rukia…

    • I rolled about 10 more times and got my third Toshiro, another Rukia and finally Ichigo. Fairly satisfied getting everything, including the systems I’ll never use, within 3 packs. Congrats on completing your set too!

  11. What’s the best option to farm for the Collab skill ups? Should I go low stamina and just grind a bunch out or do I got the heavy 50 Stam??

    You’re kind friend who rolled 2/3 rukia’s

    Like

    • Depends on who you want and when you’re grinding. If you’re mainly focused on Rukia then 50 version any time is probably the best. If you’re looking for kind of all of them, and willing to stone, 15 stamina during 2x rates is probably the least taxing on your sanity, assuming you can button push your way through every floor. Otherwise Master/Legend/Mythical depending on how much rank exp you care about.

  12. So this is an aside of the collab REM (though I think setsu’s luck blessed me: 2.5 packs for 2 rukia, ichigo, full system (somehow pulled all 3 urahara’s back to back, and one toshiro… and wayyy too many kenpachi’s).

But isnt mayuri a strictly better swallowtail in general… and heck even better than lillith? Might help with athena ranking as well.

    Like

      • The first one is basically free if you’re skilling up anything from the REM. The second, I don’t see why not, but I also don’t see any pressing need for two unless you have a poison team in mind for farming.

        Like

    • Strictly? You have to be careful how you use that word. Swallowtail is 6 turns vs. 7 and doesn’t generate poison. Of course, Mayuri is much easier to acquire and skill up, has a relevant type (for Yomi Dragon?) and has better weighted stats. So there’s trade-offs, but I wouldn’t say one is significantly better than the other. I wouldn’t even say Lilith either since she has devil type and has a TE (and row).

      Like

      • thanks for the reminder setsu. definitely forgot how good lilith’s awakenings are (besides no skill boost) I guess in this case there is no strictly better.

  13. Since I don’t care even a little bit about Bleach, I’m not disappointed to hear that this collab isn’t worth it. I was wondering whether to keep that Kenpachi I got, but I guess he’ll get tossed eventually.

I’m still pretty new to PAD, so these guides are extremely helpful. Thanks!

    • Unless you’re really constrained for box space, I’d suggest keeping him even though he seems pretty garbage at this time. It’s unlikely he’ll get a uevo any time soon (like maybe in 2-3 years since the lower rarity eggs typically don’t get uevos the first time the collab comes back), but they usually do give slight buffs and if you run any dark teams he could be useful for skill inheritance. I can’t blame you for eventually selling him, though.

        • Just want to clarify that this applies to broader questions that I need to look at a PADherder to answer sufficiently; if you have anything more specific, I could lend my thoughts on that.

          Like

          • I guess my question that isn’t line up specific is this: Should Rukia be more concerned with hp or damage?

I’m lacking a Scheat so making choices like Alfecca vs uuevo Andromeda is tough because I’m not sure where her real strengths lie.

I think my line up (which is only a scheat away from game8’s suggested) gets 26k hp fully maxed. Is that problematic?

            Like

            • I don’t think it’s a huge problem. HP is something that almost all teams without an HP multiplier struggle with — obviously — and they all do fine with just having to bring a damage shield. For places where Isis doesn’t cut it, there sadly aren’t many options in water at the moment. You can try farmables like Legelonte and blue Golem. Or maybe you have summer Awilda?

              Like

  14. This is kind of what I’m worried about. I unfortunately don’t have summer Awilda but I might try for her when she comes around again. I’ll tinker with it. Thanks for the advice.

  15. How important are plus eggs for the Hitsugaya coop team? I managed to pull a handful of him while chasing Rukia but, as a very light IAP player, he’s not very high priority for me. Skill ups, levels, and awakenings are no problem but I only average 2-3 +297 each 10x which I don’t really want to waste on him.
