  1. I copy/pasted the padx japanese translation for the challenge dungeon in youtube and it seems from the first page, none of them were using the cheesy liu bei. I guess NA is getting this extremely late: While it’s a nice advantage, it also sucks for those looking forward to the ‘challenging portion’ of future will be disappointed with how coop has advanced in favor for their box.

    • Yeah, JP didn’t even get Liu Bei until two weeks after this set came out; these dungeons come at a 5 month delay.

On one hand I want them to make the dungeons an actual challenge for co-op. On the other hand, that would make them extremely difficult to clear solo. I’m hoping they make more solo-only challenges in the future.

  2. I remember long ago you posted a challenge set with Shiva Dragon and you mentioned how Shiva Dragon made it a joke lol I figured that would be where the power creep would stop given how easily you completed them.. now with Liu Bei… I know how wrong I was haha… made this set even easier than before haha

    • I remember when Challenge Dungeons first came out and it was basically impossible to do Lv10 without a cheese team. I really miss those days of when I had something to work toward. I don’t expect to ever get that feeling again, but I do wish Challenge sets came out within a reasonable delay so we don’t just absolutely faceroll them.

  3. I can’t really agree.
If the “challenge” is an impossibly hard dungeon that is only accessible to a handful of very specific teams, I see that as generally a bad thing.
Even with the abundance of everything that is the modern PAD, it is unreasonable to effectively punish people for not having built up the right subs prior to a given event.
Honestly, a dungeon is either too difficult for what you have or it isn’t. The game doesn’t really lend itself to anything in between. Can you deal enough damage? Can you not exceed a damage cap? Are you the right colors? Either you can or you can’t, you are or you aren’t.
The top tier teams should always be able to tackle the top tier challenge dungeons. GungHo has simply decided to make some content a bit more accessible by not requiring a team full of hypermaxed 6* GFEs. I’m all for for it.

Challenge Dungeons have always been punishing, NA just gets them about three months delayed compared to the ultimate and version schedule so we never notice. JP tunes them, Lv10 in particular, to be difficult for the current meta whereas we always get them out of meta so the hurdles don’t apply. I don’t see how making a challenge an actual challenge of all things is unreasonable. This is a pay to win game so of course the people that spend time and money on it are going to have an advantage. What are “right subs” anyways? That’s just a preconceived notion of one-size-fits-all which is boring, lazy and uninspired. Part of the puzzle of Puzzle & Dragons is figuring out a team and strategy to clear dungeons. Beating a so called challenge — of which Lv10 should be an indicator of extreme endgame progress — with the same team you beat everything else with isn’t much of an accomplishment and is contrary to a major goal of the game. Maybe that’s not something you can appreciate, but then maybe Challenge Dungeons aren’t made for you.

This is wrong. Annihilation difficulties are a good example of dungeons that require thought to team build for and and are punishing if you flub your combos, but are still clearable by a wide assortment of leaders and team compositions including most top tier ones.

Like I said, Lv10 is actually a challenge when it’s released on JP. Maybe you enjoy getting a second-rate experience in exchange for easier rewards so the delay is a good thing for you? There are so many “accessible” rewards — Descended Challenges in particular — that what’s the harm in making a single dungeon more of a challenge for more people by just bringing it out on time?
