Quick Thoughts on the JP Stream 10/31/16

Since these posts seem fairly popular, I’ll continue to do them while I have time. All content will be hidden after the break. As with all quick thought posts, there’s minimal editing and I might say wrong/stupid things, so please correct me if that’s the case.

Sources: PDX and Reddit.

This post is really rough this time, but I wanted to get something out.

  • FF Collab – Not much to say here since there’s no actual stats, but uevo Y’shtola is pretty exciting if she can get offensive awakenings of any kind. She’s a great Summer Myr assist skill, but it’d also be nice to use her as a base sub as water can always use more skill boosts (and I can always use more time extends). As a withered old man, I’m a fan of the old 16-bit NA FFs (4 & 6) so I’d love to see more characters from there, even if they’re just silvers, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
  • YamaP Rolls – Pretty much impossible to predict how they’ll buff each card.
    • Kurone – Not really sure what they can do here. I’d expect a Red Riding Hood-level of buff.
    • Sanada – He’s already pretty great so it’s hard to imagine how much further they’ll push him, especially since he has split uevos now. I’m hoping they get more creative than an improved leader skill for the leader version and additional awakenings for the sub version.
    • Markab – Diadem got some pretty substantial buffs so it’ll be interesting to see how they treat the CyberBeasts. Markab has the advantage of being a god which means he could see some relevancy on a presumed uuevo Shiva Dragon, but it’d take a lot for him to see use over a proper sub since the active is really only good for trash farming.
    • Alnair – Ugh, another CyberDragon. If they’re lazy, they’ll just copy Diadem’s buffs and call it a day. If that’s the case, I still don’t see many applications outside of poverty sub status, but even that would be a pretty substantial upgrade considering where it is now.
    • Dill Sirius – I’d like to see his cooldown get lowered to four turns to bring him in line with Osiris and Nut.
    • Halloween Izanami – Uh, okay. Really have no clue what they’ll do with this one.
  • Heroine REM – Not sure what to make of this. If the revealed cards are the only ones in the REM, it seems too good to be true, but maybe the 10-stone cost balances it out? I’m not clear on the exact details surrounding this REM so if anyone knows and would like to chime in, I’d appreciate it. Hopefully they don’t dilute the pool with garbage.
    • Melissa (Mephisto) – Skill up fodder, but the Ilumina skill is so good that it’d probably be a good idea to get one of these.
    • Grida (Grisar) – This is pretty nice for a farmable, basically giving us a TPA version of Grisar. Being easy to skill up is a plus, too, as you won’t have to farm invades for them like the original Grisar. Hopefully Elia gets a similar treatment.
    • Shiina (Sonia) – A new board change combination and at 5-stars (although who really knows how rarity correlates to pull rates in this REM). Good types. Destroys golems. Seems fine.
    • Mito (LMeta) – So we’re finally getting multiple killers of the same type? Wood has a decent devil killer selection, but nothing outstanding, so this might be one of the better options. Being bind immune and having a short cooldown makes her a prime inheritance target. The only way she could be better in that regard is if she had LMeta’s second skill boost. Hard to take into Arena, though; as if Parvati wasn’t annoying enough.
    • Momiji (Kaede) – Another Norn board change and potentially easier to access than Sylvie. As much as I like time extends and TPAs, I’m not sure there’s enough here to make her a great sub.
    • Kuvia (Scheat) – Thought I was looking at a Kancolle card for a second. Not really sure what to make of the active. Any double orb change is good, but I’m not sure how good the heart skyfall buff will be. Another potential Shiva Dragon sub. The little Scheat in the background is adorable.
    • Mel (Dantalion) – Reminds me a lot of a typical special REM silver. Also not really sure what to make of the active, but for the most part any row and column changes not on the edges of the board have been awkward to use (and subsequently were moved to an edge, see: Wee Jas and Sharon). However, this is basically the best column position to make a heart-cross, so many it’ll work out after all. I wonder if she’ll have the same weird RCV-to-level scaling as Dantalion.
    • Meridionallis (Australis) – Not really sure where else she fits in water, but she seems like easy an Sarasvati subs. I don’t see her having the same farming applications as Australis since water isn’t exactly proficient in that regard. She could be interesting as a leader, though. She’s not restricted to machines like Australis and if her leader skill scales the same, it will will top out at eight connected orbs, making her 1/100/6.25 fairly powerful. In exchange, she has a no skyfall clause, but I actually think that’s a net positive. You lose the ability for skyfall to save you, but in exchange you become much more consistent against damage control mechanics and all those water skyfall blobs that would otherwise overkill can be used on the next turn.
    • Elgenubi (Eschamali) – Going to bet on PDX’s translation of Elgenubi is correct (Google Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali). The Japanese spelling starts with an “e” sound anyways. Obviously good. Does this mean we don’t have to worry about a seasonal fire Eschamali?
    • Navi (Sherias) – It wasn’t much of stretch to associate her with Sherias just looking at her Summer REM art, but the fact that her real card shares his active is a huge disappointment. Probably the worst 6-star revealed since LKali board changes are horrible nowadays. It is worth noting, though, that she does has possible farming applications, especially if NA doesn’t get Raguel. Consider a Liu Bei team that needs 100% SBR. You’d obviously just rather have Raguel so you only have to give up a single sub slot, but for NA you can use two sub slots on Navi with Tengu for 100% SBR and six skill boosts. Could be worse.
    • Barbara (Baldin) – Not sure on the translation here, but that’s how you spell Barbara in Japanese so I’ll go with PDX for now. An RSonia board change with a damage enhance tacked on, increasing the cooldown by four turns. Not sure if it’s worth the trade-off. Triple skill boosts and triple killers make her quite attractive, though. If Machine Goemon is actually a thing and her types qualify, I could see her being an important piece. As a lead, 4/49/4 for machines isn’t shabby, but her sub pool seems limited, especially since she’s the only machine that makes both fire and dark. It’s too bad she can’t use dragons as I’m sure there are plenty of people with RSonias and Kagutsuchis collecting dust in their boxes.
    • Romia (Zuoh) – Four time extends? And in wood? I’m in love already. Seems like a great match for Acala. Obviously as a sub (10 time extends from three cards!), but pairing Acala and Romia for 7×6 could be a lot of fun even if you have to hit Zuoh’s matching requirement to fully activate. It’s too bad Astaroth has fallen off the map as Romia addresses that team’s lack of time extends while also presenting an orb change combination.
    • Illumina (Ilm) – Argh, a 7-star. For only one turn of extra cooldown, you get a 100k area laser on top of Ilm’s original skill. Seems good. The assortment of awakenings are obviously amazing, but the four skill boosts are begging to be used for farming. The active is reminiscent of Goemon in that it’s possible to get a two-for-one kill from a single skill. This is a coup for Cao Cao teams who were hurting for skill boosts anyways. Outside farming, I guess Minerva and Ilm are the most obvious options with things like Kenshin and Tsubaki also in consideration. Can also be a good assist skill. So much potential and I didn’t even get to the time extends and killers. I can see this card destroying plenty of wallets.
  • Coliseum (Rogue Arena) – I was watching Reco run this this morning. Looks terrifying. Looks to be a limited time dungeon which I find somewhat strange. Using Arena 1 as a basis, I still don’t think the rewards are proportionate to the level of effort needed to clear it, especially at 200 stamina per run, but it’s always good that more challenging content is being released for those that want it. Someone asked Reco what you get for completing this dungeon. He replied: “Nothing.” Outside the drops, of course, which aren’t bad, but aren’t great either. I guess this could be a “reasonable” way for NA to get Orpharion parts; at least as reasonable as running the various machine dungeons 100s of times.
  • Uevos
    • Tsubaki – This isn’t exactly what I was expecting, but I’ll take it, I suppose. I guess it was too much to ask for a different leader skill. I would’ve at least liked different or additional types. Still doesn’t make me want to run a Tsubaki team, but it could be something fun for my alt to do. For those already interested in running a system for her buffed leader skill, this is good for you. It also means the Minerva-Ilm Arena 1 team will be slightly better. I don’t think the double dragon killers will present any problems, but it could make Kagutsuchi interesting. As always, the extra skill boost is greatly appreciated.
    • Revo Kagutsuchi – Not much of note, but the additional ATK makes him the fourth hardest hitting triple donger (behind dark Kanna, School Lucifer and School Athena). His super-high HP should also be an asset to revo Shiva. As a  lead he could also be a good option for clearing something perseverance-heavy like Yamato Rush, maybe pairing with something like Vritra.
    • Revo Ra – 1/225/4 to gods and devils when matching five elements and using and active. He also gets an additional time extend, improved stats and physical typing. The wood sub-element could open doors for team building. I’m not overly impressed with this. He seems awkward to utilize. I don’t think this rules out the use of LKali boards, but you’re strongly discouraged from doing so since you’ll want to maximize the possibility of healing and thus always use DKali boards. The active skill requirement was always awkward and doesn’t change here. 25x without a skill use is nice for damage control, but is difficult to use in that capacity outside no-RCV dungeons. Speaking of which, would the Dacho MZeus carry team even need a damage enhance anymore?
    • Revo Hades – While 94% reduction to dark could have interesting uses, it seems far too narrow. The ATK multiplier activation only requires a single element, making it easier than the RGB ones, but I don’t particularly like the lessened range of the resists which is only exacerbated by the lack of a corresponding Puppeteer. But I didn’t like the original RGB revos and it wouldn’t surprise me if there was some strange but effective use for these cards.
    • Revo Venus – See: Hades.
    • Uuevo Ra Dragon – Really? That’s it? Don’t get me wrong, the HP multiplier is absolutely huge and the SBR makes solo team construction that much easier, but without an offensive boost or sub pool expansion, I’m feeling a bit let down considering the presumed evo materials, the Radar Dragons in particular. It might be the right level for JP since they have, well, PAD Radar, but for NA I don’t know if it’s worth it. I’ve been dreading having to farm Radars from Arena 3, but if these are the types of buffs we can expect, I might just pass on them altogether. It looks like the standard team with 2x DKali and Isis is still the best core with the new bind immune Kanna uevo filling the last slot.
  • Snubs
    • Radar Dragon Drops – I’ve been anticipating another dungeon to get Radar drops to make it easier for NA to evo the MP Dragons, but I think at this point I’ve given up hope. Our only chance is that they give us the Radar dungeons as one-time gift dungeons a la Snow Globe Rush; otherwise, it’s time to get cracking on Arena 3.
    • Satsuki – Someday.
    • Pantheons – Egypt 2, Constellation 2 and both Angel pantheons should be in line for some buffs. Of course, introducing a new special REM baitfest is to be expected, but the lack of buffs to existing cards this stream is distressing.
    • QoL Improvements – To be fair, they don’t always announce system updates on stream, but with so many ways to improve the user experience, it’s disappointing that they didn’t reveal anything.

  1. Agreed.. it is very distressing to see a lack of updates on existing cards. That’s one of the things that first drew me to the game… ..the fact that it seemed they managed to make old cards stay relevant. Not just an endless money grab.

    • GH will always introduce newer cards over buffing older ones; they don’t earn a buttload of money by buffing cards most of the players have, they want to bring out newer ones where people would go crazy to iap for them. That’s why new cards will come out faster than buffing old cards, and sadly, it makes perfect sense for them to do so.

  2. The Heroine REM is a very strange direction and Gung-ho keeps following this for a long time. Most of the cards are (imo) really bad and have horrible awakenings. They will probably be utility subs at best, I’m also curious if we’ll see a Wood Eschamali, but seeing how wood is normally left out, I don’t have high hopes. I’m really digging Momiji tho and will probably use her and Yamatsumi as Kaede Subs just for the artwork.

The Revo Hades and Venus are trash. They are almost worse than their Awoken forms. Having a 70% resistance against ONE color is way too much and too restricted. Cards like this make me curious what they’ll do to the Chinese Girls…

Also Revo Venus art is garbage!!!!!!!!

  3. It’s really a shame that Navi is so garbage outside of niche use for 4 sbr. The best use I see for her outside of sbr is a RRa sub, since she hastes and covers blue. Which is pretty sad all things considered.
The rest of the heroine REM isn’t impressive either, aside from obviously REschamli and Illumina. RSheat seems decent as well.
I’m still gonna roll it for sheer cute factor though. Maybe the uvos will be good. Probably not.

    • Yeah, she and Sherias actually would’ve been great for revo Ra… except now you’re highly incentivized to run DKali boards for his RCV multiplier. Such a wasted opportunity. She’s so cute, too, seems a shame.

Yeah, the Heroine REM isn’t great, but if the lineup is only the new cards then I’m actually fairly satisfied with it. Even if they’re only good for inheritance, as a base or assist, I think that’s pretty good value considering all the other trash REMs we get. My final opinion really hinges on the actual rates, but at least for now I’m actually kinda excited for it. I guess that’s a reflection of how low my expectations for this game are nowadays.

  4. Depending on the buff Markab gets, he might also make an excellent sub for Krishna. He’s not bad even now, since he has solid awakenings and a decent active, but he just doesn’t compete all that well with various pantheon gods, but a buff could change that.

Who knows how long Krishna will remain relevant, though.

Regarding Ra Dragon’s UVO… I don’t know how much this actually says about the other UVOs. RaDra is still the strongest of the MP Dragons, and needed the least in order to become relevant again. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see more significant buffs to the rest, since they’re that much further behind the meta.

I can also understand them being a bit gun-shy about buffs, ever since the heart-cross meta ended up being so much stronger than they expected.

    • Ra Dragon already being the best MP Dragon so the buff might be “underwhelming” is a great point. TBH he’s pretty busted now, but I can see how they’d be a bit gun shy about pushing the limits further. Here’s hoping the other MP Dragons get some nice buffs as well.

      • Also, you touched on this a bit, but the HP multiplier (and SBRs) functionally opens up a sub slot for RaDra teams, since you no longer need Indra’s shield or double SBRs.

This means you could slot in a laser, an attack boost, a delay, or maybe even a blind resist utility sub to cope with the new blind mechanic, depending on the dungeon. The sub pool is still limited to gods (although it might be worth going off-type in some cases), but that’s not as restrictive as it could be.

  5. I thought we were going to get fire Eschamali for Christmas. I almost want to say no more Eschamalis since she usually converts away wood, but I thought we wouldn’t have a blue Eschamali because of Scheat and look what happened…

  6. Im surprised Elgenubi doesnt convert wood to whatever attribute it is (i mean, we already have meatball guy, but no ty)like other eschamali rehashes. At least we broke the curse so we wont have an eschamali break wood into wood (lol).

Also dissapointed by Navi, when she gets outclassed by a silver version of herself. However, there is that one new descend boss that uses sbr for shield power and is 2.25/56.25/2.25 and also covers colors for her (new teir 3 lead with navi maybe?)

Super hyped about Yomidragon Uuvo (in b4 hoping for heart cross), but if it just mirrors ra dragon, riperoni. Also would like a third type of devil/ balanced so it can be used on gremory Also not very excited to try and get my hands on a heph dragon for Shivadragon uuvo, whenever that is. ( I was lucky enough to get a hera dragon already)

I wish Momiji woulda been just a awakening rehash of kaede (5star version of a 6star gfe with worse awakenings and leader skill? im down) . My ronove team is jankier than A. Kushinada’s leader skill.

  7. Re: Radra Uevo

It did expand the sub-pool, in that you don’t absolutely need the Indra or other double-SBR on the team now. I think it’s been boosted at least back into S tier

    Like

    • That didn’t increase the pool. That increased team building options within the same pool (which I already covered). You don’t actually get access to any new cards. Big difference.

  8. Wouldn’t Momiji be a great pull for Myr? With Fuma Kotaro’s skill you could make the board 2/3 light 1/3 heal

    Like

    • Don’t confuse usable with great. Especially when you’re paying 10 stones per pull. Running both Fuma and Momiji would leave your awakenings in a pretty sorry state, too (as much as I love time extends, Myr is one of the teams that doesn’t need to reach for them). I’m sure plenty of people will be happy with her, though, but that’s more a reflection of how easy Myr is to obtain.

      Like

      • Ahh, I was thinking of inheriting Momiji onto Myr and Fuma onto Ariel. I had accidentally fused away my Apoc a couple weeks ago when I started playing again thinking it was Valhalla rip😦
