This is a help thread, so please feel free to ask questions on just about anything concerning the godfest or your teams, box and progress in general.

As this falls on a weekday, I’ll be limited in how many questions I can answer. I’m not going to set a hard limit as I’m still trying to gauge how much interest there is coming off my hiatus, but don’t be surprised if your question doesn’t get answered. I apologize in advance.

I’m also still working on improving the post format. I’ll get to it eventually, but for now I at least have an auto-generating template up and running. Please let me know if you run into any mistakes.

Please read the rules before posting, especially if this is your first time:

  • I will only take box questions that supply a PADherder. It makes it much, much easier for me to give good advice this way (you could say I can’t give good advice without the sorting options). Try PadListener to sync if you’re on Android (if it works for you), otherwise use this method.
  • Box/roll questions that don’t supply rank, IAP status and main teams will be ignored. Any other information you want to supply will only help.
  • Please check the FAQ after the break before asking a question. Questions that aren’t covered by the FAQ will be prioritized; questions that don’t may be ignored.
  • I have WordPress set to flag comments with multiple links to combat spam. I still get the comment, I just have to approve it manually for it to show up on the site. So if your comment doesn’t show up, this might be the case. Ideally, only post a single link to your PADherder.
  • I generally reply on a first come, first serve basis, but if there’s a low hanging fruit I’ll address that first.
  • I will post thread status as bold red comments. Make sure you read these comments before posting to make sure you aren’t violating the rules. I’m no longer segregating comments by day, instead I’ll indicate how many questions I be able to take for a given thread in the first status comment, then stop taking new ones after that.
  • No new questions will be taken after the godfest ends. Questions asked in other posts may be ignored; please wait for the next godfest!
  • Follow-ups to existing questions will be taken as long as the post is still open for comments.
  • I’ll close the post for comments a few hours after the godfest ends.
  • Any comments breaking the rules will be removed without warning.

This is FAQ is a work in progress (last updated: 9/28/16).

  • I’m rank 200 or lower and low- or non-IAP, should I roll for X god? – In general, no. Even if the RNG gods blessed you and you just need that one god to perfect your team, early on you should be focusing on accumulating stones and waiting for a high-value godfest. You want to accumulate value to increase the overall quality of your box so you have more team options in the future as the meta always shifting. The Player’s Choice Godfest (PCGF) is generally the best value early on, but normal godfests can be plenty good nowadays depending on the combination. Pantheons that have a wide variety of uses like the Heroes, Chinese and Three Kingdoms are great. Minimizing dupe chances should also be a high priority. Galas have been changed to have a reduced impact ever since the gala exclusives were introduced so while it can certainly play a part in your decision, don’t let to weigh too heavily. As GFEs are generally at 4x rates or higher now, which sets are excluded from the bonus plays a much bigger role now.
  • Which MP Dragon should I buy? – This image isn’t perfect, but sums it up nicely. Credit for the image goes to fether from the subreddit. If there’s ever an updated version, please point me toward it. In the day and age of Liu Bei, MP is an easily farmable commodity so if that’s within your capability and you’re good with allocating the time to do so, you can afford to be more impulsive with your purchases.
  • Why is X monster rated higher than Y monster? – The monster ratings aren’t there to be an accurate, authoritative resource on a card’s power, but are more used as a ballpark estimate to give a relative idea of how useful a given card or pantheon is which is used to help evaluate godfests. Co-op isn’t a current factor so don’t be surprised to see cards like Liu Bei with a lower than expected rating.
  • Why is the overall rating not an average of the lead and sub ratings? – Long story short, when grades are given using the normal distribution, cards that are both good as leaders and subs get a boost in the overall rating while ones that are bad as both get penalized. This is because most cards in the game are usually only exceptionally good at one role, not both.

Grading scale. Ratings are weighed in favor of endgame viability. Ratings try to take the latest JP updates into consideration. The overall grade is not an average and is based on the normal distribution of the combined lead and sub ratings. Grades do not factor co-op or skill inheritance at this time.

Egypt 1 has to be one of the most disappointing pantheons to pair with a 5x GFE godfest. That being said, their revos have made them more appealing. As leaders, of course, but Horus as become a better inheritance base to complement Isis’s already strong sub potential. Speaking of Isis, it should be interesting to see if see gets a revo from the JP stream happening later today.

The Chinese pantheon for the Chinese New Year should be no surprise. While non-heart leads are making a small comeback lately, it’s sad to think that one of the historically best sub pantheons has fallen this far. Haku, in particular, has seen a recent boost due to Aizen and DAthena; here’s hoping the rest can see similar increases in relevancy in the future. Speaking of which, perhaps they’ll get revos on the JP stream? Sure, there are other cards that have a higher priority, but Chinese New Year and all.

  1. As stated already, I’ll be limited to the number of questions I can answer due to the godfest occurring during the work week. I’m not going to set a hard limit, but don’t be surprised if I can’t get to you. I’ll also likely only be able to answer the majority in the evening; please be patient. Thank you!

  2. Hello Setsu,

could you take another look at my box. I’m quite sure that I should skip this godfest, but I’d like your opinion. I’ll probably make 1 yolo pull and I really don’t know which day is better concering gfe. Kaede on the one hand and DKali on the other hand are very tempting.

Thanks a lot for your help

      • The only real reason to roll this godfest is for the GFEs, so just roll the day that has the ones you want. I don’t see any big difference in potential as far as Kaede or DKali, although I guess DKali has been a proven commodity for longer and will likely remain that way as long as she (and Ra Dragon) exists. Past that, there’s really not much else I can say. You have to set some goals and work toward them.

  3. Hi Setsu,

i asked you for advice in october where you reinforced my plans to build an alb team as my green box was strongest and that was the only team with some coherence to it. Gungho kept on giving me green cards including kaede and sylvie shortly after and i can now clear most content in the game 🙂
I’ve recently beaten Arena 1 for the first time (solo) with my Myr team and am looking to tackle the Machine Dungeons and higher Arenas sometime in the future.

    Rank: 363, Non-IAP
    Teams: ALB for farming
    Myr/Paimon/Sun Wukong/ADQXQ/Baal

    Padherder: https://www.padherder.com/user/Mandavar/monsters/

At the moment i’m often struggling to decide whether i should roll or not and end up often pulling a few times just because rolling is fun. Basically i can’t really answer “What would improve my teams?” and don’t feel a lot of pressure to really look into it as i’m doing quite well with most content. I think what i should do is really work on hypermaxing one main team and look to get better cards for inherits etc. I’d like some advice what those base teams should look like and what would improve them. That way i could make better decisions on when to roll.

I think i would like a full board changer for Myr and Saria seems much more obtainable than Apocalypse. I certainly would like another Kaede but 6* are not really chasable as Non-IAP.

Thanks for taking the time to have look at my box!

    • If you’re content with your teams, and they do look pretty good, you should instead focus on diversifying. This means rolling in godfests where you have low dupe risk in hopes of picking up, uh, non-dupes. You want to do this so when the meta eventually changes you’ll (hopefully) have some of the cards already so you can get a head start. As for which, you have plenty of pantheons to pick from. Otherwise, I don’t see any problem with rolling for fun. It’s important to enjoy yourself.

If you still want to improve your existing teams, that’s going to be difficult. Targeting specific cards as non-IAP is difficult and you’re hemorrhaging value if you risk dupes. A 5-star GFE like Saria is a bit different, though, as they’re featured every godfest. I don’t see any problem trying for her has long as the accompanying pantheons are good. I see 5x GFE events being fine for you, too. It’s hard to recommend either of this godfest’s days, but they aren’t horrible for you, either.

      • Thank you. I hadn’t really thought about the diversification angle but it makes a lot of sense.
I still would like to be able to answer the question “What cards would improve my existing teams?” Any pointers on how i can figure that out myself or which specific cards you think would benefit my current teams?

        • Myr is pretty well documented. Anything that makes both light and heart orbs, basically. So something to replace Baal, then eventually more things to inherit. imo the TPA team is the best version. Kanna is a key sub. Indra is key utility for A3.

Kaede is also well documented. Basically, more Kaedes. I don’t see the merit in running a Kaede team without dupes over a Myr team.

Krishna is the team I know least about. Your current team looks fine. If you’re going rows, I might do something like inherit Urd on Tsubaki and fill the last spot with a Leilan. Cao Cao for utility. Silk for burst.

Still think diversifying is best for you. I wouldn’t be concerned with specific subs.

For determining which cards are good yourself, there are plenty of resources. If English resources fail you, there are plenty of Japanese ones. My aggregate leader posts link to each site’s team pages.

  4. Hello Setsu,

I came back to the game with a new account during Christmas. Only did a few rolls so far. No padherder because I don’t really have any monsters of note aside from Madea Keiji, Rukia, Orochi, and Metatron.

I have a Madea Keiji team with mostly farmed monsters (Rukia, Canopus, Hera, Echidna)

Also working on a Rukia team again, mostly farmed monsters: Midguard, Orochi, Hera-Is, Siegfried.

Should I roll in this godfest? If so what day? I was thinking 2/1 as Metatron already can cure binds on both teams, and I’m looking for subs not leads.

Is it realistic to expect to roll some good Rukia subs with 20ish rolls, taking water gala into account? Otherwise I’m not really adverse to waiting for a better chance.

    • I’m not sure how I feel about a new account rolling in a single-pantheon, 5x godfest. On one hand, you’ve just gotta start getting some cards to work with. On the other, I can’t imagine the rates are that good. Galas really aren’t something to take into consideration; the bonus rates have been fairly inconsequential since the nerfs. I’d say pass, or maybe try your luck on day 2, but I’d set a pretty strict and low roll limit.

  5. Hi Setsu

i started playing a few weeks ago, after a six month break and i’ve been saving some stones from doing coin dungeons.

After the break im a bit confused with all this new content, i’ve been slowly working a cao cao farming team but, i really don’t know if i should work first on a farming team or a team to beat arena for skilling up my other awoken monsters, i would really like your help.

Do you think should i roll? there’s a water gala maybe with a bit of luck i’ll get some useful water monsters for my future Lakshmi team.

    thanks i advance

    • First, galas rates are trash now. The only reason they matter anymore are the gala exclusives. With your box, I wouldn’t roll either day.

Farming and progression aren’t mutually exclusive. If you want to advance at a decent rate you have to do both. I’d pick one of Cao Cao or Yomi Dragon and focus on raising them since they fill both rolls reasonably well. I’d probably god with Cao Cao, but Yomi Dragon has a higher upside.

      • Ah, sorry i don’t have yomi dragon, forgot to remove it, i was just using the team building in padherder to see the stats with my daark cards, sorry.

        • Gotcha. Well that makes the decision easier. Personally, I’d prioritize raising your fire cards and trying to come up with a team for farming a Scarlet or 2.

  6. Hi setsu

I don’t have questions about my box but I want to know what to do. I’m at the point where I’ve beaten everything (except the team challenges because I’m too lazy) and don’t really know what to do. I’ve been mindlessly farming arena for a while and it’s becoming kind of boring. What do you suggest to make pad more “fun”?

    • There’s not much else. I’d suggest just taking a break. If the game is boring and you can’t find any way to make it fun yourself, it’s time to see if there’s anything else you’d rather be doing. Some people might suggest making up some sort of challenge or farfetched goal, but I’d try to get some perspective on the situation by taking a break first. There’s so many other things you could be doing that might be more fun. You can always come back.

  7. Hello Setsu,

Love your blog, serve as nice guidance for a new player.

Been playing a month. Currently have 55 stones, don’t have any gods from pantheons, but mostly excited for the GFE.

    Rank: 230
    IAP; few dollars.

    Blue Sonia/ Blue Sonia / Orochi / Sumire / I&I

Since Pandora is my most viable leader I want both Haku and Zuoh. But I don’t really know how to distribute my pulls, and which day could benefit more. Been considering having a A.Ares team too.

    • Personally, I’d probably wait for a 2-pantheon godfest, I think you’re better served expanding the options in your box and a single pantheon godfest doesn’t really do that. GFEs are fine, but which really help you progress? It looks like you have enough to work on while you wait for the next decent lineup that I’d pick a better opportunity.

    • You should also run Sumire as a lead. She is pretty powerful and has a lot of tankiness. I’d suggest something like Sumire/Berry Dragon/Sitri/Siren/Flex(Sitri/Hatsume/Blonia/I&I). Its not ideal and a lot harder than Blonia, but much stronger.

  8. Hey Setsu,

My main issue is that I have good leads (I think) but lack the subs !

    Rank: 314

    IAP: From time to time

    Current team(s): RevoVenus

Currently using RevoVenus team (subs: AApollo, Verche, Izanagi, Amaterasu or Ana Valk). I have Ronove, Gremory, Minerva and Acala, but in my opinion lack the subs to make them work. My Venus works pretty well, but I feel it’s a bit fragile.

      • Right sorry, just realized I didnt explicit my question.

In your opinion, is it worth rolling in this GF for subs for Acala, Gremory or Ronove teams ? I have the leaders, but lack the subs. RevoMinerva might also be a team I’ll be trying to flesh out eventually.

I feel my RevoVenus team is too squishy and will eventually hit a ceiling.

        • With your box, you should just be looking to expand your card pool. Rolling for specific teams usually results in lowered overall value. Instead, look for a godfest that features 2 pantheons that are generically good (Heroes, 3K, Const 1, etc), then look to forge your path based on what you get. At your point in the game, don’t let what’s already in your box dictate where you roll. When you get enough variety where dupe risk becomes a real concern, that’s when you switch gears to targeting cards for specific teams. Of course, it’s always an added bonus if generic value overlaps with the teams in your box and is ideally what you want, but you can’t rely on that.

    • So, you don’t have Ideal teams, but you do have some. You can run

      Acala/Ronove/Robin Hood/Avalon/Griffin Rider

You should also Awaken Izanagi so you can pair with a Myr.

      AIza/dqxq/lemon/Venus (with inherit)/Spica/Flex (mostly Moogle)

None of these teams are ideal, but they all should work for most dungeons and the Acala team is pretty strong (though fire/wood makers would be ideal).

  9. Hii, new player looking for advice.

    Padherder link: https://www.padherder.com/user/suzunahara/monsters/
    Rank: 96
IAP: Just the one time deal purchase and the $1 thing up now, for now.
    Current Team: Urd/Set/Homura/Gigas/Samurai Ogre

I’ve got 85 stones, so 17 pulls. Mostly just curious if I should spend any, and on which day. And most importantly, is there a point I should stop on a certain day should I get something in particular.

    • As I’ve stated earlier, I’m not a fan of newer account rolling a single-pantheon godfest. I just don’t think it offers enough value to be worth it. What you’re looking to do is diversify your box options which a single-pantheon doesn’t allow you to do. GFEs are of questionable value early on, too.

That being said, you also want to start getting cards to work on. I could be convinced to roll day 2. You need both leads and subs and the Chinese are fine in both areas.

Personally, I think I’d pass. I could see spending like maybe half your stones or something should you feel inclined.

  10. Hello Setsu. I’d like to 1) build a team capable of beating A3 and machine dungeons and 2)obtain some more well rounded non-myr teams (ronove in particular lacks great subs despite being my first roll).

    PH: https://www.padherder.com/user/bindmeplz/monsters/
    Rank: 410
    IAP: Light
    Teams (also in my padherder):
    1. Myr(Snow White) / Kanna(Facet) / Venus (Saria) / Ariel (Fuma) / Moogle (Lemon Dragon)
    2. Ronove (Penelo) / reCeres / Lightning / Gadius/ Urd
    3. Noctis / APersephone /Satsuki / z8/ Sepiroth
    4. Lightning / AKali / HorAce/ Sepiroth / AApollo

55 stones available. I’d really like an Isis or any good blue coverage for Ronove, and wouldn’t mind playing with BAcetet/ReHorus as new leads, but I’m not sure that justifies the rolls given my sources of stones are starting to dry up and I don’t plan on paying for more unless more “one time” deals pop up. What do you think?

    • As light IAP, I think you have to choose one or the other. You can’t really afford to do both. There might be some overlap, but you have to prioritize one.

For Arena 3, I’d just continue to develop your Myr team. Once hypered, there’s really no reason why you can’t clear it with the team you have, especially in co-op. Farming is another story, but that’s the constant struggle. I’d try to focus on subs that are generically good for Myr teams (Wukong, DQXQ, etc) even if they aren’t perfect fits for your TPA subtheme. Something like Indra is also invaluable in A3. I don’t know how you feel about Indian 1 compared to Egypt 1, but that’d also give you the option of more leads to play with. You could also try to land another Ariel while also having a chance to land a Rozuel for Ronove.

For covering blue on Ronove, I’d actually consider running Balboa. With his split he gains bind immunity which is what you’re looking for from water coverage and he gives some bind utility like Isis and Rozuel. Obviously not an ideal choice, but he’s good enough that I don’t necessarily think I’d chase something else from an obscure pantheon.

      • Without knowing your goals and priorities, it’s hard to recommend teams. In general, I’d definitely look into making an Awoken Liu Bei team. Don’t know if co-op is your thing, but it makes life so much easier. I’d also look into making a Myr team. I think what you have works for where you’re at in the game, though.

Also, instead of a Tsubaki team, I’d definitely lead with Ilm instead. Pairing her with a revo Minerva also makes for a consistent Arena 1 farming team.

  12. Hi Setsu, did you catch the race between yama p, max and them… your original waifu Verdandi was so close to getting buff, but that fool decided to try to max combo when he had the lead…NotLikeThis

  13. Gonna cut off questions here. I’ll try to get to everyone that posted so far. Follow up questions are still welcome, as well as non-involved questions. Thanks!

  14. I’ve been playing for 2 weeks. The account is based on a Ronia, and until today she was my only REM pull. Based on what you’ve said so far I was considering skipping today, but I figured I’d roll up at least one gold to work on.

This morning I rolled twice: Ruka and *Anubis*!

Should I stop rolling for today, or get just a bit more REM-only fodder to start leveling up? My demon food bowls (ha!) have done great for me, but I’d like to move on to spending resources on ‘real’ cards.

    • If this was a normal 2 pantheon godfest, I would encourage you to roll. Since it isn’t, I’d recommend that you wait if possible. RSonia is good starter roll if only because there are so many good farmables. Anubis is actually a fine sub for her and I’d just concentrate on pouring resources into him and whatever farmables you can scrounge up. Another 2 weeks is a long time when you’re just starting, though, so depending on how many stones you have now and how many you think you’ll have by the next godfest, I could see rolling a couple times more. I’d definitely wait until day 2, though, as the Chinese will help you out a lot more.
