Disclaimer: The aggregate list is an average of the tier lists from multipler JP gaming sites. It is compiled automatically by a script. I endeavor to have as little influence on the results as possible. Feel free to refer to the FAQ. Don’t take these ratings as fact; I encourage you to simply take them as a starting point for discussion to figure out which leads are actually the best for your specific situation.

GameWith was removed from the aggregate due to them changing to a ranking list format. I’ll be looking into replacements, but don’t expect that to happen soon as I don’t have much time to update the script. Most movement was due to their removal with Vegito and Sesshoumaru being the only notable additions since then.

    • I consider the idea of ideals teams to be misleading, unconstructive and a major reason why people are so bad at teambuilding in the first place. You always have to consider what’s in your box, your own capabilities and, most importantly, what dungeon you’re running.

      • Wise words, the question shouldn’t be what’s the ideal team, but what’s the ideal team for me. I don’t have access to the health badge yet, so I run Cecil for his dark resists over my Yomidra or DMeta when I farm arena, if I had the badge, it would be a different story.

      • If I could hijack his question, I’ve long wondered what you run for aizen arena 3, I’ve played around with numerous setups, but are curious what you personally use. Rather than chase an ideal, its cool to know what other people use as different setups often have different strengths/weaknesses.

  1. Setsu, I find myself in great need of some REAL advice. In regards to the free mp we are getting, I am debating a Ragnarok dragon or odin dragon purchase. The ragnorok dragon would go on my ronove team (Ronove/Kaede/Ragnarok dragon/Vishnu/Mel) and the odin dragon would form his own team (Odin dragon/kaede/ASusano/Vishnu/ALB). What is the better purchase?! I have asked many people and none have given me a definitive answer.

    • 1. Can’t give a complete answer without knowing your box.
      2. Can’t give a complete answer without knowing what you want to accomplish.
      3. Despite that, I have a hard time believing Odin Dragon would ever be a better purchase than Ragnarok.
      4. Why not both?

  2. Sorry Setsu, I totally forgot to say I’m trying to create a team to beat a2&3. I don’t have a pad herder, but my wood box of note includes Verdandi,ASusano,Vishnu,Perseus, ALB, Kaede,Ronove, and Mito. My best subs in my water box are AIsis, blue tamazo, and Mel. As to the why not both question; yes I have ALB, but no I do not have a finished team for him, so I have no way to farm mp for both.

    • Not really sure. If I had to wager a guess it’d be because of his weakness to combo shields. Similar to binds, the JP lists seem to be averse to anything that lowers overall consistency. However, do note that Game8, who I think is the most consistent list now that GameWith is gone, has him ranked the same as Vegito and above Krishna.

      • Definitely noteworthy. Despite his bindability, his (nearly) perfect damage control along with his combo adding active (which also adds to his damage), combined with his extremely good use of YomiDra, Esch, and DRozuel (among others) make him seem pretty standout imvho.

  3. Poor Neptune Dragon… I really thought after his UEvo he would get a bit higher. I mean I get he’s Orb hungry and combo absorbs really slow him down and he relies on actives but I like him…

  4. Never thought I’d see Vegito back in the tier list haha! Can’t believe his relatively low multiplier allows him to be up there but I guess the defense reduction is pretty nice

  5. hey setsu, never thought Id see vegito back on the list. His new LS is pretty cool, but the multiplier is rather low… In any case, I have a few questions:
    1. Ichigo and Sesshomaru play in pretty much the same way. Both are orb leads requiring a certain criteria to be filled. What’s sesshomaru’s advantage over ichigo considering he’s higher up on the list?

    2. What got vegito back onto the list?

Thx in advance. I really like these posts. They analyze cards rather well.

    • You’re still here?

      >Ichigo and Sesshomaru play in pretty much the same way.
      Wrong.

      >Both are orb leads requiring a certain criteria to be filled.
The fuck does that mean? That’s like 90% of all leads.

      >What’s sesshomaru’s advantage over ichigo considering he’s higher up on the list?
      >Clicks Game8’s Sesshoumaru page.
      >Shows you right there.

In case clicking Google Translate is too hard for you, it’s because he has a TPA-based Arena 3 farming team. A bad DAthena is still better than 99% of other leads.

      >What got vegito back onto the list?
You tell me. Google Translate sure is hard.

      Still annoying.

        • We got off to a very bad start about a year ago where he demanded answers to questions in all caps. This poor first impression has stuck with me and doesn’t let me forgot as he’s sadly become a regular commenter. He’s done a lot to be more cordial, but the bad impression combined with the slew of spoonfeeding-type questions just turns me off. I don’t mind answering those types of questions once in a while, but when it’s from the same person you just flat out dislike, I have a hard time taking the high road. Especially when it takes like two mouse clicks to find the answer yourself. If you still have questions after that, then I don’t mind chiming in.

I’m surprised he’s still here in all honesty.

  6. Does Ryune’s recent buff indirectly make BMyr Stronger than LMyr, or are they still about the same?
Aketchi was the only significant difference before, and even that was widely redundant or unnecessary. But now BMyr can use Ryune to cycle actives smoothly.

    Liked by 1 person

    • BMyr has always been inferior to LMyr and Ryune doesn’t change anything.

      >Aketchi was the only significant difference before, and even that was widely redundant or unnecessary.
Wrong. LMyr has a bind immune TPA team. Kanna is head and shoulders above any water sub. There’s no comparison.

      Like

      • Whenever someone mentions the 100% bind immune team, I assume it’s Myr / 2xAriel / 2xKanna. PADX won’t let me search its monster book based on awakenings; are there other key bind-immune TPA subs for Myr?

I like running a hybrid TPA/row team just because Sun Wukong and Apoc are such good insurance policies against bad boards. But hoo boy, LL Kanna just shits out damage merely with a heart-cross and a single TPA.

        Like

        • Well, there are nuances, but 2x Ariel, 1x Kanna is the standard core of the TPA team.

The main constraint being that Ariel has no SBR and there is a lack of good bind immune, 2x SBR light subs. The Arena 3 template team uses Awoken Indra in the final slot, who isn’t bind immune and has weaknesses very much akin to the old Arena 1 Ra Dragon farming teams. The bind immune, 2x SBR options are Awoken Ama, NY Ama, PAD Bear, and Ganesha. I’ve see a fair amount of teams run Ganesha (of all things) over Indra for the shield slot.

The other option is to just run 1x Ariel for dungeons that require 100% SBR. Then your sub range opens up a bit. For example, you can use subs like dupe Myrs, Orpharion or another Kanna.

I’d strongly suggest downloading PadGuide for their monster search as it is considerably better than PDX. The search features I find the most useful are being able to search on inheritable monsters and on specific awakening combinations (like for this very comment I searched for 2x bind resist, 2x SBR light cards).

  7. Sumire’s faster, safer, and easier than the rank 3 leaders, and some of the rank 2 leaders too. What’s up with her unpopularity?

    Like

      • Even though her multiplier is only 56x, an ideal Sumire system deals over double damage on enhanced orbs alone, and then it also has the 1.5x atk buff with 100% uptime. It’s easily enough damage to clear A3 with as little as 2-3 combos on each floor, and can one-shot Kali through her shield when paired with Carat.

        Like

        • System teams are horrible in A3. You need active slots to cover all corner cases to maximize consistency. You can’t do this with Sumire because she needs orb changers to do both respectable offense and defense. Meaning you’re already conceding death to certain spawns before you even enter the dungeon.

          >It’s easily enough damage to clear A3 with as little as 2-3 combos on each floor
You’re grossly over-representing her damage output. With a match-five, a heart-cross and 1-2 additional non-water combos, you’re doing about 5mil team damage max. There are plenty of floors with more HP than that.

          >can one-shot Kali through her shield when paired with Carat.
Not only is Carat terrible on a Sumire system team (but I guess there really isn’t any other choice), the vast majority of the teams on the list don’t need a Gemstone enhance to deal with Kali.

          Like

          • The Carat part was just an example at how you’re severely underestimating her damage, but that is a common misconception regarding leaders which require a 5 orb match. Don’t forget to take the enhanced orbs awakenings into account.
The easiest and most reliable way to kill Kali with a Sumire system would be to just tank the first hit and then kill her in one shot once her shield is gone.

An ideal Sumire system ensures a cross heart each turn, has bind clear available whenever, and can easily overcome skill delays or other obstacles due to inherits and haste-spamming, but there are only a couple floors that could possibly require an inherit to be used. Apart form player error, an ideal Sumire system has a 100% clear rate in A3.

            Like

            • Please. I can say that about any lead. “Under the right conditions I can one-shot Kali.” It doesn’t mean anything. The fact that Sumire’s team damage is crap doesn’t change.

4 active slots are dedicated to your system. One is a purportedly a bind clear. That leaves one skill slot for the rest of the dungeon. Seems unlikely that you can guarantee a 100% clear rate.

How do you deal with Gaia Dragon? Hephaestus Dragon? Doesn’t seem like 100% clears to me. This isn’t even taking orb troll or other RNG factors into consideration.

              Like

  8. Hi Setsu, I know above that you have already responded to Noctis in general regarding the tier list, but what about Noctis is relation to Dark Athena? Mainly because I’m planning to purchase her if/when she does appear in the NA mp store.

DAthena and Noctis seem rather similar on paper; they both sport the same hp multiplier. But where they differ seems to be the tradeoff of damage for rcv. I see the biggest obstacle for Noctis to be combo shields since his four match clause make it hard to go over the combo requirement. I’m also not entirely sure how big the damage difference is since we’re looking at the triple TPAs on the two Athenas and the difference between the number of TPAS on both teams in total.
How does she compare to Noctis in damage control and stalling? Noctis’ biggest drawback for me would be the devil killers, on things like Parvati it really is annoying. But nonetheless, Noctis still has a scaling multiplier – and coupled with his four match clause it can help prevent skyfalls for further control of damage. Although Noctis has the lower rcv multiplier, it’s unconditional. For Athena, her rcv multiplier is dependant on matching her x49; doesn’t a multiplier that high sort of make it hard to stall while not triggering the enrage zone? The more I type I realise that damage control may not be too big of a problem for DAthena, but the healing/stalling part stands out the most.

    Like

    • Just from a high level standpoint, there’s really no comparison. Not only is DAthena bind immune, but she does more damage more consistently for less effort.

I think the main selling point for DAthena is that you don’t have to stall. Most A3 team comps don’t rely on orb changers since the activation is so consistent. Since you can run a full complement of utility/role playing actives instead, this generally leads to runs not needing to stall. Yes, there could be awkward times when you want to stall, but don’t want to attack as well, but this really isn’t a problem in A3 where most of her value is tied.

As far as damage control, DAthena essentially scales as well. You can do any combination of non-TPA, TPA, dark-only, and dark-and-water matches to get the scaling you need.

Noctis is a fine lead, but if you’re looking to do some hardcore A3 farming, DAthena is the superior choice.

      Like

    • I’m assuming you’re referring to my comment about not needing latent killers for farming?

I mean, what dungeons actually require latent killers at this point? It’s basically just Ganesha teams. Rank EXP is important, but I’m not going to refresh A3 a million times then go full tilt when I flub a good killer run just to improve my rank EXP rate.

      Like

  9. I’m curious as to why Gremory isn’t generally rated higher than Ronove after her buffs. You would think that unbindability and gentler activation conditions would be a big help in Arena 3, where Ronove will struggle with absorb shields (like radars and Vishnu) removing Ragnarok Dragon from his teambuilding. His activation condition usually isn’t a problem for a skilled puzzler, but it makes it hard for him to execute monsters like Ilsix. Gremory is also a lot better at stalling – Ronove’s okay-ish multiplier with no heart cross can push monsters into rage zones. For shorter dungeons and combo shields Ronove is a clear winner, but these lists seem very heavily weighted towards true endgame dungeons. What’s the key advantage Ronove has? Is it damage control? His short CD hazard clear? His sweet ass 80s metal guitar solos?

    Like

    • Gremory is generally worse because of her active reliance. In Arena 3 when you’re trying to save actives for the last few floors, it puts a lot of pressure on the team to execute consistently.

As for Ragnarok Dragon, it seems that most A3 teams just use one that doesn’t have the killers awakened. Even without his killers, he’s still one of the best options to cover dark and it’s not like the team is missing the damage.
