It’s been over two months since my last help thread. I’m looking to keep the question count low while I settle back in, but let’s see if there’s any interest in the first place.

This thread has become increasingly difficult to manage. I’ve thought it over, but I think the current system is the best considering I can’t modify any of the software on this site, the base WordPress comments offers no sort of moderator support and I want to allow anonymous comments for as long as possible. An external tool is not appealing, either. So the only thing that will change going forward is that rule breakers will have their comments removed, without warning. If it turns out too many people are breaking the rules, I’ll reevaluate how to manage this thread in the future, but for the most part people have been great so I don’t anticipate that.

In the past, it seemed like GungHo would up their godfest game whenever a PCGF was around the corner in an attempt to drain us of a few stones before the big event. Not so much this time as the lineups are pretty underwhelming. Maybe they all of a sudden hate money or maybe they’re trying to get out of the way of the FF Collab. Whatever the reason, it’s a shame that we didn’t get a quality godfest for those players whom the PCGF is not great for.

This dungeon is a good example of why wood is currently terrible.

Descended Challenge 6 Teams – Spica Kills Everything Edition

Nothing was particularly difficult outside of Yamato Rush being Yamato Rush. Maybe the most surprising thing was Zeus Dios’s preemptive not getting resisted; I had gotten so used to taking reduced damage from everything that I forgot that Spica doesn’t cover wood.

I’ve been considering trying for a Spica Arena clear and one thing that running all these dungeons made me realize a few potential weaknesses for the team. The most obvious are bind as losing either Spica basically kills the team. For the Arena, the team will really have to play like a standard tank team. Two sub slots are automatically taken up by Freyja and Courage anyways which already limits consecutive burst. The few YouTube clears I’ve seen also dedicate a slot to Odin Dragon, limiting damage potential even further.

Everything in this collection of dungeons are either short, the monsters have low HP or both.

A Look at Awoken Astaroth for the Arena

Just so it’s clear, this post was written for Arena 1 before Arena 2 was released. I won’t be revising this post for Arena 2.

I have an inexplicable love for tank teams so I’ve been interested in making an Awoken Astaroth team as soon as she was revealed. Sure, she was a disappointment with her initial stats, but it was only a matter of time before they buffed her (I wasn’t expecting quite this much, though). My interest piqued when Game8 added her to their S-tier, something I never would have guessed based on my perception of the team at the time. Game8 obviously isn’t the word of god, but the fact that they would put themselves out there with that rating meant that Astaroth could actually be the elite row leader wood never had. I don’t plan on going too in-depth, but I do want to use this post to superficially explore her capabilities in the Arena, the current barometer of a team’s endgame viability.

I wasn’t expecting them to push out the Constellations (or “Machine Star Series”) so soon, but considering how GungHo likes to chain major REM releases to efficiently pillage our bank accounts, it makes sense. Luckily, the new pantheon is quite good for one that doesn’t have uevos. Their applications aren’t as readily apparent as the Sengoku pantheon, but their flexibility to be relevant subs on just about any type of team is what makes them valuable. They’re also fairly strong leaders.

After getting their awokens, the Norse pantheon is a strange one. Surprisingly, I have them rated as the #1 overall pantheon. The numbers check out due to the way I set up the rating scale — pantheons that both lead and sub well are rare, meaning the Norse jump up the curve since they’re good at both — but that definitely doesn’t tell the whole story especially since being good at both isn’t all that much of an asset in the endgame. They’re only exceptional as leaders because of the HP boosters they pair with, not simply due to their own raw power. As subs, their value as a method to address the Kalis in the Arena definitely gives them a boost. They’re certainly a great pantheon, but you do have to understand why they are and how they can help your team. All being said, day 1 presents very good value. I’ll personally be rolling this day in hopes of chasing down that elusive Loki and landing the super cute Spica. The Christmas REM basically being a dud also helps my decision to roll this day.

Day 2 is also quite good to roll in and I’d imagine there are way more people that need the Heroes than the Norse. Despite being rather old, the Heroes are still some of the best subs in the game. Sadly, they’re almost obsolete as leaders, especially in light of the recent upgrades to the Valkyries.
